Has anyone heard of Mexipedium being used SUCCESSFULLY in a cross with Phragmipedium or Paphiopedilum, i.e., resulting in FLOWERING specimens? I have heard tales of Phrag crosses with Mex, but have not seen/heard of any flowered results, and wonder if TRUE crosses are known to exist.

I have seen plenty of the so called Paph and Phrag hybrids photos online and personally, I think they are all bogus, to me they all looked like Paph hybrids and not Paph/Phrag intergenerics. I doubt that they even exist even if there are "registered" ones which still doesn't convince me enough!

Yeah, agreed re: Paph/Phrag hybrids (unlikely but inconclusive -- one funky photo that gives pause on Tanaka's site, supposedly with Phrag besseae as a parent) -- -- -- but what about Mex/Phrag? It has been stated by Koopowitz (and I think others) that some Mex/Phrag hybrids exist, but I have NEVER seen heads nor tails of them -- only tales.
BTW, what do folks out there think about the distinctness of Mexipedium as a genus separate from Phragmipedium?

I heard that mexi has been crossed with phrag, but have never seen any. I think that by itself would be grounds to classify mexi as its own genus.

Yep, maybe, but still looking for those Phrag x Mex progeny that have flowered... Anybody with more info??

I don't think they exist. word gets out fast in the slipper community. you make a phragmipaphium that looks remotely real, and everybody will know about it in a hurry. good luck, i think you have a better chance finding the fountain of youth.

The bits and pieces of rumors (Tanaka is probably the source) I've come across sounds like its going to come out of Japan, and the paph parent will be some specie of parvi. I'm not enthused about the notion one way or the other. The mega oncidia intergenerics are very pretty, but I buy them when I'm in trouble with my wife and I have to put something pretty in the house.

Me neither.
Sometimes I think we mess too much with a good thing.

I also don't like the idea of a Paph/Phrag/Mex/Cyp hybrid.
