FINALLY some blooming Cypripediums outside! I have moved to this slightly colder climate that has made everything bloom two to three weeks later than I am used to, plus the move which has had me worried about my uprooted children, and all of this rain that has been unrelenting for the past week!
This is Hank Small.

It is a cross between Cyp parviflorum and Cyp henryi made originally by Carson Whitlow in 1991. It has small flowers like both of its parents and a bright yellow slipper like parviflorum. I dont collect many hybrids but Paul Perakos in New Britain CT has several outstanding plants and I could not resist. This is a young plant, older ones usually have multiple tiny flowers on each stem. It was still cloudy this morning - I will shoot another in sunlight, if there ever is sunlight!
For those considering a Cypripedium this is an extremely hardy hybrid.
