View Full Version : Paphiopedilum philippinense in bloom
Paphraguy May 4th, 2005, 04:28 PM My philippinense is in bloom again. :-dance: This is 'Angel Wings' HCC/AOS x 'Easter Parade' HCC/AOS flowering on 2 spikes with 6 on one and 5 on the other. It is not in full bloom yet, still have 2 more buds to open. Had to stake the 2 spikes so they could fit inside the frame.

Paphgirl May 4th, 2005, 05:33 PM Peter, that is super phenomenal!
I had no idea it had so many buds on it! Here I was all excited w/ my roeb and wallisii having 3 each and look at you! :joy:
Just wonderful. See, this is what happened last year - you post photos like this I go nuts trying to get my hands on these plants! If I didn't already have that cross, I'd be out looking for it as we speak! Bravo!!
RickL May 4th, 2005, 06:18 PM Really nice color Peter. I like the redder petaled forms.
My philippinense only threw single spikes this year, but the one on Too Goo Doo had seven flowers on it.
I managed to break 3 off going back and forth to the show we had this past weekend.
My other plant (no parentage known) has 5 flowers on the spike, but it got the blue ribbon in multiforal paphs.
Need to get some pictures and polinations in before I break off more flowers.
dustyatticstuff May 4th, 2005, 06:46 PM Wow! That's georgous!:clap2:
I wanna go out & get me one of those!

fred May 4th, 2005, 08:15 PM Yours looks great. I just repotted mine today it just finished flowering but with only one spike. Hopefully the next flowering will have two spikes like yours. There are three nbs growths now so it's possible. Ray
wolfcreekmn May 4th, 2005, 08:20 PM Very nice Peter, I love the colors. You and your plants with 2 spikes!!! :clap2: :clap2:
Park Bear May 5th, 2005, 10:12 AM magnificent
Paphraguy May 6th, 2005, 08:33 AM Thank you all for the kind comments!
Rick, your Too Goo Doo had 7 flowers on 1 spike? Very impressive! :clap2: Is it still in bloom?
RickL May 6th, 2005, 10:46 AM It has 3 good ones left. I managed to break 3 off (from the middle of the spike), going back and forth to the show, and the first one on the spike is going out.
I've been saving the pollen. I think I'll self it. Do you want to send me some pollen from "angel wings", for my other phil?
Paphraguy May 6th, 2005, 11:16 AM Hi, Rick!
Thanks but I'm really not into pollinating and growing plants from seeds. I just don't have the patience for it. However, if you want, I can try and get seeds for you if I know how. I have been growing slippers for years but collecting seeds from my own plants was not my thing at all.
RickL May 6th, 2005, 02:13 PM Actually I'd like to get some pollen from your Angel Wings. Much easier to get than seed.
Paphraguy May 6th, 2005, 02:21 PM How do I get pollen? I have never done this before but I'm afraid of hurting the flowers. Let me know if you can. There are still 2 more buds to open.
Paphgirl May 6th, 2005, 02:26 PM Pete,

How many growths on your phil? Yours is matured enough to spike, right?

I have two mature growths on mine and one older previously bloomed growth.
