View Full Version : paph, which one?
Jussi_K May 1st, 2005, 04:05 AM Can anyone id this hybrid. Looks like much insigne to me, but the flower is bit bigger, 14-15 cm wide.

Welcome to the best forum. I will refer you to a previous thread, it is very hard to identify a hybrid. We might be able to give some suggestions though... Here is the link to the previous thread: http://www.rainbowcomputers.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=483[/url]

I hope this works....
Jussi_K May 1st, 2005, 08:30 AM Thanks! It looks quite similar, maybe yours colors are bit more intense... How should I care this? Does it need cold period to flower?
TADD May 1st, 2005, 08:47 AM Oh you want it to bloom again? Usually the rule is a cooler break and less water in the winter time. Probably 55-65 degrees, still water, not quite as heavy as summer watering.

Can't help you with IDing your Paph but that is a very nice photo of a lovely flower!
Stephan June 23rd, 2005, 02:46 AM I agree on the nice flower
Don't know how helpful I can be having become paph manic in just the last four years or so. For mine your flower looks like one of the early complex hybrids - I've been looking through some books and web sites without much luck -
It does have elements of insigne. I also see spicerianum and villosum.
Anybody else got clues.
Cheers
Stephan
nyorchids June 23rd, 2005, 05:27 AM nice plant i also see villosum

I'm sure a few of the members here will be able to get you in the ball park on the id of this plant
couscous74 June 23rd, 2005, 07:26 AM Very pretty flower.
Littlefrog June 23rd, 2005, 11:15 AM Impossible to tell... It has villosum (and/or boxalii) in it, and some insigne. But that isn't at all unusual, those would be in the background of any 'complex' paph of that type.
If I had to guess, I'd say it was a fairly simple hybrid. It is close to the species. I don't think it is a primary hybrid (villosum x insigne), but it is probably pretty close. If it were of modern breeding, I'd expect it to have substantially wider petals. This is probably a division of a cross that is at least 50 years old, maybe more.
