How much do you add to a gallon and how often do you use it? TIA Paphgirl April 28th, 2005, 06:44 AM I am using it at about 125ppm once a week. However, I just started with it two weeks ago. Park Bear April 28th, 2005, 07:05 AM I am interested in this also. I just use what I can find around here locally at the hydroponics store, which does have a nice selection of ferts. I'm not too sure why this is better. Hopefully, Ray or others will give us a good tutorial. SteveT April 28th, 2005, 09:11 AM I add 2oz to 32 gallons of water. consettbay2003 April 28th, 2005, 09:19 AM Steve, do you fertilize at that rate ( 1 tsp/gal ) at every watering or do you flush in between? Approximately how often do you water your paphs? paphreek April 28th, 2005, 10:03 AM I am using it at about 125ppm once a week. However, I just started with it two weeks ago. I have been using it at the same rate, 125ppm N, and have been having good results. I started a with a lower concentration and was seeing paler leaves and slower growth, so I upped the level to 125ppm. consettbay2003 April 28th, 2005, 10:07 AM I assume that when you say 125 ppm you are referring to Nitrogen ppm??? Do fertilize a this rate once a week? Paphgirl April 28th, 2005, 10:46 AM Yes, sorry should have been more specific. consettbay2003 April 28th, 2005, 12:17 PM What do you use to adjust the ph, and how much of it do you add per gallon? Paphgirl April 28th, 2005, 03:52 PM What do you use to adjust the ph, and how much of it do you add per gallon? I have an 8 liter sprayer, so I've been using about 4-5 tsp. MSU for pure water plus 3-4 drops superthrive and then about 1/8th of a teaspoon of Pro-Tekt to bring the pH back up to about 6.5-7, but this is really recent and I have had to adjust the amount of PT each time to get the pH right. Still experimenting a little. consettbay2003 April 28th, 2005, 07:06 PM An 8 litre sprayer is approximately 2 U.S. Gallons. So you are using about 2- 2 1/2 tsp / gallon. If you are using MSU fertilizer for pure water that is a PPM of N of 300 - 375. 3/4 of a tsp/gallon gives a reading of 112 PPM of N - much more in line for paph needs. Paphgirl April 28th, 2005, 08:19 PM An 8 litre sprayer is approximately 2 U.S. Gallons. So you are using about 2- 2 1/2 tsp / gallon. Hmmm, can you tell I failed math? Ok, now I have the bottle of fert. in front of me and it says for 100ppm N per gallon, 2 2/3 tsp. so, that's why I've been doing 4-5 tsp of fert. per 2 gallon sprayer. Sorry, I did not explain accurately. I was at work and just going on memory (which, obviously, sucks!) I apologize. SteveT April 28th, 2005, 10:55 PM Steve, do you fertilize at that rate ( 1 tsp/gal ) at every watering or do you flush in between? Approximately how often do you water your paphs? I fertilize on a declining scale. It starts out full strength, then at about 1/5 left, i start adding more pure water over the next few days until it is entirely diluted to the full 32 gallons, then I add another two oz. Laura April 28th, 2005, 11:26 PM I changed to the Msu fertilizer back in 2003 after reading an article in the Orchids’ magazine. I like the stuff. I am a windowsill grower, and I can truly say that I get more flowers now after changing to the Msu fertilizer. I should say, I did about a Month ago change to the Peters cal-mag fertilizer as the Msu was hard for me to fine where I live. And I could order Peters easier... I don’t think that there is a difference, any way I hope not! I use 1 tsp. fert to gal water; add to the water ¼ teaspoon of Pro-Tekt… for 3 watering and flush on the 4th watering. Seams to work for me. O I also sometimes spray with sea weed just few drops in a small spray bottle. Maybe 4 or 5 times a year. Eric Muehlbauer April 29th, 2005, 10:15 PM I use the liquid pure water formula of MSU from First Ray's. For paph's, I use 2 tspns/gal for strap leafed paphs, half that amountb for others. i adjust the pH with 1/4 tsp Pro-Tekt/gal.....When my liquid formula runs out, I'll switch to the dry formula. The MSU formula is definitely good for my paphs...I've had far fewer dying plants since switching to it...I think the lower P level is definitely beneficial. Take care, Eric Muehlbauer Paphgirl April 30th, 2005, 07:05 AM Eric, just curious, why will you switch to the dry formula? Eric Muehlbauer April 30th, 2005, 11:12 PM Purely for economics...I started with the liquid formula because it was a smaller amount, with cheaper shipping. Since I hadn't used it before, I just wanted to try it out to see if it was suitable.. I ordered it in August and have used 80%....the dry formula, according to Ray, is no different except in dosage...and the container I got could easily last me 5 years....I am very pleased with this fertilizer, so I am willing to commit to it. Take care, Eric Paphgirl May 1st, 2005, 02:37 AM (after I asked that I went to Ray's site and took a look and figured that was the reason....I did the same the first go around.) Thanks Eric! |
