I have it in my livingroom room for now, but it may get moved to the garage soon. I had one bloom last year. At first i thought, gosh everyone is over-exagerating the stench these things give off. Gradually however, the stench got worse and worse and by the 4th day after it opened, it was unbearable! You could actually smell it in the lobby of my building and I was on the 5th floor at the time! Phantom March 25th, 2006, 11:32 AM Wow. I have noticed that is does keep getting stronger and stronger smelling. You have convinced me that it is going to the garage today. I'm on day three right now. Greenpaph March 26th, 2006, 12:17 PM Wow! Thanks for the introduction to these unusual flowers! lienluu March 26th, 2006, 12:40 PM Wow. Reply With Quote You can just remove the red phallic part to get rid of the stench. That's what i do with all my amorphos. that's the part that produces that stench. it snaps off just above the white stuff on the stalk. sorry, not very technical terms but i couldn't think of how else to describe it? Also, the smell quickly fades, around 2 days after peek stenchiness. Phantom March 26th, 2006, 04:01 PM Wow! Thanks for the introduction to these unusual flowers! You're welcome. I glad you like it. They seem to be fairly easy to grow. The only trick seems to be finding a big enough tuber for it flower. This is my second year growing this particular plant, and the tuber is a little bigger than a softball. I have been spending a lot of time here admiring all flower images on this site. Do you know how long the flower is expected to last? Gideon March 26th, 2006, 04:20 PM Very nice indeed likespaphs March 26th, 2006, 04:31 PM Do you know how long the flower is expected to last? i don't know about this one, but the A. titan (the big one) only lasts about a week, i think. maybe less. Tom Velardi March 26th, 2006, 08:28 PM Totally awesome! Park Bear March 27th, 2006, 07:41 AM that is very cool, my wife would kill me if I brought one of these home.... likespaphs March 27th, 2006, 08:16 AM i know a place that has little tiny Titans so she wouldn't know for years.... RickL April 1st, 2006, 05:50 PM that is very cool, my wife would kill me if I brought one of these home.... Lowel You've already been killed and brought back to life a zillion times. What's one more time compared to experiencing this plant in real life? TADD April 2nd, 2006, 10:02 AM Wow, how big is the pot that this is in? Mine are wee babies! Phantom April 2nd, 2006, 03:40 PM Wow, how big is the pot that this is in? The pot is about 16" across. Last year, I had it in a smaller, plastic pot and the roots not only filled the pot, but they broke through the plastic. Chun April 2nd, 2006, 04:02 PM Very nice and interesting...! The dried tubers can be used as a low-calory nutrient, for diets. They have almost no taste at all. <<<Chun Chun April 2nd, 2006, 04:09 PM "Konjac" sounds about the same as the French "cognac" (exactly the same in German), but they are two very different things--indeed ! <<Chun Park Bear April 3rd, 2006, 08:40 AM Lowel You've already been killed and brought back to life a zillion times. What's one more time compared to experiencing this plant in real life? I've got to pick my battles, I just bought a recumbent bike that I will be riding back and forth to work. It wasn't cheap......If I bought one I would have to store it at your greenhouse. My buddy in high school and I used to take turns hiding each others lizard and snake aquistions at each others houses like that. You just got to figure out the legitimate transfer a few months down the road when the heats off. |
