Well, today was my birthday & since my kids are still a little young to get me what I'd like (although they did make me lovely, handmade bday cards) & my DH is out of town on a business trip, I celebrated by going out to Al's orchid greenhouse with my MIL, Carole, who's up here for a visit & that I'm lucky to have as a MIL, seriously, I can't believe how lucky I am to have added my DH's family to mine-they're all great, fun people & I'm just as comfortable around them as I am around my own family.
It started off as a warm, sunny day, but by the time we reached Al's, it was raining & a good 10-20 degrees cooler. I thought it might be a little strange, taking Carole, who is not into orchids yet, with me, because I like to browse & walk around & look at tags, but she quickly got into it. The only thing is she kept pushing me towards cattleyas & other things that I don't think I could grow successfully ( I'm still in a sunroom & windowsills), so I had to keep saying, 'yes, it's beautiful, but I don't think I can grow it successfully'.
I purchased small plants of Phrag. 'Court Jester', Paph. Angelina Kruger, Paph. Fourman's Pan Tao, Phal. Millie's Tropical Sunset & Dtps..Rubies & Gold'. My MIL insisted on buying me some larger, blooming phals-Dtps. Rubies & Gold & Phal. (Carmela's Brite Lites 'Chili Pepper' x Brother Purple 'Brother'). We stopped by a Greek restaurant for lunch & then I went home to situate my new orchids-it turned out to be a lovely day, despite the rain.. my kids are all playing with friends, while I sit here gazing at my new plants-I am so happy!
