View Full Version : Amorphophallus titan starting to leaf out
likespaphs March 18th, 2006, 11:04 AM plant is only a few years old. i probably should have potted it in a much larger pot, but i guess i'll do it as required.
it is slightly larger than a yard stick (from top of soil to top of leaf)

Paphraguy March 18th, 2006, 11:09 AM Wow, that will be gigantic!
likespaphs March 18th, 2006, 11:33 AM right, forgot to mention it's still probably seven or so years from flowering size
silence882 March 18th, 2006, 01:25 PM I would suggest you start running now to get far enough away by the time the flower opens....
Beautifully grown plant!

Shady Character March 18th, 2006, 04:39 PM Very cool! I like the "Do Not Throw Out" sign. 8)
nyorchids March 18th, 2006, 05:14 PM i like the tag(DO NOT THROW OUT)
TADD March 18th, 2006, 05:31 PM Beautiful we have two that are in 15-20 gallon pots. They get huge and heavy to move. No bloom yet!
Phantom March 18th, 2006, 06:17 PM Way cool! It is looking really good.
Paphgirl March 18th, 2006, 07:39 PM I like the greenhouse!
And your tag, lol! Haven't we seen that on something else before? I always get a kick out of it.
These are neat plants, but I don't think I want one!
Markm0723 March 18th, 2006, 08:50 PM Very Impressive  . Brian, did you start it from a seed, a seedling, or a corm?

Gideon March 19th, 2006, 02:26 AM Very nice
likespaphs March 19th, 2006, 08:41 AM got it from what i think may have been the first selfing of an A. titan. (a woman came into the conservatory. i gave her a little tour. she said her hubby runs a west coast conservatory and said she'd ask if he could bring anything when they came back that thanksgiving. and the rest, as they say, is in the past....)
i think the previous sign may have said 'please do not touch the orchids' (got to say that at the ne flowershow, too!)
as for this sign, there's this guy who works here who, when he sees and empty pot throws it away and it was dormant for a while. guess the sign is outdated. as for me, too bad i'm not out dating....
Park Bear March 20th, 2006, 07:54 AM I've seen pics of the plant in flower and I've heard about the smell
Nynaeve March 20th, 2006, 10:18 PM COOL! I like your tag too! I have tags on my plants that say "I'm not dead!" and "Do NOT water me!" mostly for my father in law who shows up unexpectedly and thinks he is helping by watering and moving everything. I should probably make some tags that say "I'm only MOSTLY dead!"
Tom Velardi March 20th, 2006, 10:29 PM Looks like it's gonna be a monster this year. Very cool plant!
likespaphs April 24th, 2006, 03:26 PM well, i didn't do it as it happened, so here it is...

Greenpaph April 24th, 2006, 08:54 PM Congratulations, Brian!
thanks
Park Bear April 25th, 2006, 07:50 AM I didn't think it would have leaves like that
likespaphs April 27th, 2006, 12:49 PM technically, it's considered one leaf.
