Greetings All,

Does anyone have any experience with growing Polyrrhiza lindenii (Ghost Orchid), or should I say sucessful experiences? :) I just received two yesterday from Oak Hill Gardens. After reading about them, and seeing that everything they seem to need is exactly what other orchids DON"T need (wet environment, little or no air circulation), I figured as a orchid novice, now's the time to try them :D . They are currently mounted on grape vines. I have temporarily put each one in an opaque one gallon milk jug, with an approximately four inch hole cut in the side, and a layer of wet sphagnum moss in the bottom. They are located in front of a south facing window in my garage (little air circulation, and low light). Down here the daytime temps are already in the low eighties, so warmth is no problem. I'm misting them lightly twice a day with a weak fertilizer solution. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance,
Mark

Ed Merkle has done well with his, and RF orchids seemed to have allot of info too when I met Robert.

Also since Oak Hill has had them on their list for some years now, I'd probably not contradict their advice.

I've never tried any, but I'm interested.

Markm0723, how are you doing with your ghosts?
I'm considering an opportunity to buy this orchid and I'm surprised that only few people grow it. This thread seems so unpopular..... Ghost Orchid's lovers, where are you????

I have two I have been growing for a year. I have them mounted on a small grape vine with a little bit of moss.
They are hanging with some other minutures at the far end of my room. in a south window and also close to a 430 watt light. I spray them every couple of days. They were small when I got them and have a few green tips on there roots. They seam slow growing for me. it will be years untill flowering for me.

Mine's got 3 growths that are thriving but probably way too small to bloom. I've had it a few months. It's on grape vine, hanging inside a clear, round glass vase with small stones and water in the bottom. There's a small Chiloschista in there, too. They touch a little.

The vase is in the 2nd "row" back from the 5'x5' E/SE window and under 2 T8s. Every morning, I spray inside the vase, mostly staying on one side 'cause the Chilo's supposed to dry out between waterings. Every night, the Ghost gets sprayed, sometimes w/ RO, sometimes w/ RO and fertilizer, occasionally with our nasty tap water.

So, fairly high light, fairly high humidity, no air movement. Any suggestions?

Also, does anyone know the reasoning behind the opaque milk jug with the 4" hole?

Thanks

saw the milk jug setup on another forum, I think for the reasons you mentioned. Still lets in good light, keeps humidity a bit higher around the plant, and most of all to block air flow from the fan for the other plants
