View Full Version : I finally got my roths - no flowers

I'm pretty excited as last weekend I was finally able to obtain a relatively large rothschildianum and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg. It is probabily no big deal to you guys overseas as I suspect they are pretty common these days. But here in Australia large plants aren't that readily available and when they are, the prices are a bit out of reach. This is a cross between rothschildianum 'Janet' FCC x rothschildianum 'Western Springs' BM/CSA. Don't know much about 'Western Springs' but 'Janet' is pretty famous. Actually believe it or not, a friend of mine who lives close to me actually has a large piece of 'Janet' (would be the only person in Australia who would have it). The growths on his plant are very compact (certainly smaller than my seedling), so maybe I won't have to wait too long for it to flower. Is my plant far off flowering size or does it have to become a large multi-growth plant before I see anything.

This is what it looks like.

Cheers

David

Congrats! Beautiful plant you there. I have 2 roths, one is Rex and Mont Millais and the other is Janet x Chester Hills. How big is the leafspan? It looks large enough to bloom.

I would say that is definately big enough to bloom for the first time. It will probably spike around the time you see a side shoot developing...although some clones can be a little reluctant to bloom.

Congrats on your beautiful plant, David! I'd be watching for that new start if I were you...

If the plant has only one growth, then I would rather see the plant produces more new growths before it spikes.

NICE roth. I would expect a new growth anytime. The leaf span looks huge!

David, if that were my plant I would be very excited and somewhat impatient :-dance:
