Photo of some new Paphiopedilum I just added to my collection. Any one have some culture tips for any of them. As these Paphiopedilum will be new to me, like the Paphiopedilum Lynleigh Koopowitz, it is a Parvisepalum Right. The Paphiopedilum esquirolei is a species, when I looked it up it says Paphiopedilum hirsutissimum var. esquirolei. I of fell in love with the slippers, :-dance: and my slipper collection is sure growing.

Laura (Sorry)
Lots of folk have been posting their picks of hirsutissimum and var. esquirloi. But I'll put my two cents in.

They come from some decent elevations in Southern China a North Vietnam, and are generally found on limestone cliffs.

I let mine get into the low to mid 50's (for night lows) during the winter. And they can get a couple of hours of fairly bright light early in the morning or late afternoon. High humidity (>70%) gets real long leaves, fast growth and reduced bud blast. They are in an area of my greenhouse which doesn't normally get higher than 85. I also add a fair amount (maybe 10% of mixture) of oystershell to my potting mix for these guys.

Hi, Laura!

I grow my esquirolei indoors with my warm loving multiflorals around 70+ in the winter daytime, night time around 65+ and summer around 80+ with continous ample air flow and humidity. Mine is still in bloom and I even posted a photo in the Paph gallery down below. Hope this helps!

For what its worth, I have found straight hirsutissimum far easier to bloom than esquirolei...much more inclined to set buds, much less prone to blasting the ones that have set. Take care, Eric

A clone of hirsutissimum v. esquirolei was the Reserve Grand Champion at the World Orchid Conference in Dijon. It was an amazing flower - unfortunately my picture of it didn't come out. The flower had extremely vibrant colour , the petals were held horizontally and the tips of the petals were very wide and presented themselves in a perfect vertical plane. Even non paph types ( :? ) couldn't help but drool.
