Chun March 1st, 2006, 05:20 AM Do it now... :) Using pollen from another clone would be better though... <<<Chun malipoense March 1st, 2006, 07:14 AM unfortunately I do not have any other pollen available for this species so I'll give it a chance by selfing.... thanks for the answer anyway paphreek March 1st, 2006, 08:47 AM I've heard that it is best to wait at least a week after the flower is open. Beyond that, whenever you are ready and the flower is still viable is a good time, the sooner , the better. :) paphjoint March 1st, 2006, 09:07 AM Do it as soon as possible, gives better seed count and germination nautilus March 1st, 2006, 02:13 PM I agree, do it as soon as possible. Good luck! RickL March 17th, 2006, 06:40 PM Sooner is better than later, but I have gone weeks out and still had good results. Also you can cut a small window in the back of the pouch and pollinate through that rather than removing the whole pouch. Depending on the species, I've had the flower hold up for a few more weeks (post pollination) before it wilts, so I could still enjoy a relatively intact flower for a while. Its pretty weird the individual species differences. Henryanum flowers start wilting just a few days after pollination and go down pretty fast. Venustum and hirsutisimum flowers lasted for weeks afer pollination. The average seem to hold up for about a week or two before wilting. |
