Ack! This is my first bessae. The bloom on my plant is turning yellowish. Please someone tell me that it's just on its way to changing to a red color. Other than the top part of the bud turning yellow, it looks fine.
Also, is there anything I should know about the culture of Giganteum? I just bough one in bloom, and it's so beautiful. I'm terribly afraid of killing it. I grow on near the window, an east facing bay window, and there's plenty of light all day, with good morning sun. Any information will be appreciated.
thanks,
Tien

Hi Tien, welcome to the forum, by the way!
Is the besseae bud open or not yet? Can you post a photograph? A little hard to understand what is going on from your description. In my experience, besseaes do darken as they open, but I'm unsure what stage yours is at right now.
Hopefully all will be well!

I took another look at it, and it looks like it's becoming more of an orange-y color. I think that means that it's just getting redder. It's raining here so the light is poor, but I did my best to get a picture in natural light. Here goes.

it takes me a while to figure things out; let's see if this worked.

Tien,
Keeping the besseae cool will help produce richer color. Since yours isn't open yet, I wouldnt worry about it's color just yet.
As for the Giganteum, I recently got a couple myself, and they are doing wonderfully. I give them more water than I would a caudatum, but I don't give them as much as something like longifolium. The Giganteum might be able to handle more water, but mine are doing well enough. In any case, I water them so that they stay on the heavy side of moist, but they don't ever dry out, and I give them plenty of air movement.
Good luck :) Let us know how they turn out
As Ever,
