Paphraguy April 16th, 2005, 12:59 PM Aren't they just so graceful looking, like a graceful swan? My 2 spikes are growing rapidly.
RickL April 16th, 2005, 01:20 PM Ya
Its amazing how fast phililppinense spikes grow once they start.
Paphraguy April 16th, 2005, 01:44 PM Yes, both my phil and roeb  spikes are growing very fast and yes, once they start, they just shoot up.
Wendy April 16th, 2005, 09:37 PM Great pictures...more, more...
Paphgirl April 16th, 2005, 10:12 PM Thanks! More to come as we progress. I am surprised at it's speed. I sure hope it blooms out fairly well for a first bloom plant.
I agree, it does remind me of a swan, somehow. I love watching these progressions. They simply fascinate me, the subtle daily changes. I must have stared at my wallisii buds today for 15 mins straight, just trying to get to know them.
Paphraguy April 16th, 2005, 10:21 PM Seeing them in person is a whole different experience also. :D
Park Bear April 18th, 2005, 08:45 AM that sure is growing fast :-dance:
Paphgirl April 21st, 2005, 05:48 PM Here's an update from this morning. Still growing FAST! :D
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y134/ahmcd33/8e0f069a.jpg
Paphraguy April 21st, 2005, 05:51 PM Wow! It is really growing quite fast. How many buds so far? I can only see 2 or 3 from your photo. The two spikes on mine are already a foot tall with 4 buds on each spike. Can't wait to see how yours come out! :joy:
Paphgirl April 21st, 2005, 05:56 PM Wow! It is really growing quite fast. How many buds so far? I can only see 2 or 3 from your photo. The two spikes on mine are already a foot tall with 4 buds on each spike. Can't wait to see how yours come out! :joy:
Thanks Peter! Sorry it took me so long to get it posted today! :(
Anyway, I'm not sure, if it is two or three buds. I can't quite tell and my first multifloral paph. to bloom from this stage, so I'm not familiar enough with them to be able to tell yet. Sorry, I'm so inexperienced!
wolfcreekmn April 21st, 2005, 07:53 PM Hi Heather, very nice looking spike. What size is this plant it looks smaller ? I might have to look for one  . If it not to big, I'm running out of room for big plants .
Paphraguy April 21st, 2005, 08:01 PM Eric, some roebs can get quite big. Heather's roebellinii Pam x Grace is a more compact clone. I have 2 different ones, one is compact and the other is huge. You can see pics of my huge one right here in the Paph gallery and mine is in spike again also. :-dance: If you're space limited, look for the compact clones.
wolfcreekmn April 21st, 2005, 08:24 PM Thanks Peter for the info, so if it has Pam or Grace they should be a compact clone.
Paphgirl April 21st, 2005, 09:01 PM Thanks guys!
Yeah, this one is around 12" w/ the growth in spike and another growth well on its' way. :)
Paphraguy April 21st, 2005, 09:06 PM Eric, my small more compact roebellinii is Grace x Honey and the other one is Grace x Candor Red Streamers which gets quite large. Hope this helps!
wolfcreekmn April 21st, 2005, 09:27 PM Thanks Pete yes it does help. When i go to the show tomorrow ,I was going to see if I can find one.
Paphraguy April 22nd, 2005, 10:10 AM Good luck, Eric! Let us know if you found one.
Paphgirl April 24th, 2005, 01:06 PM Definitely three buds maturing. http://clicksmilies.com/s0105/cool/cool-smiley-027.gif
(that one's for you Rick!)
Paphgirl April 26th, 2005, 06:27 PM Ok, so this look normal to everyone? The stem holding the second and third buds looks a little droopy to me. Should I be concerned?
This baby's growing FAST! Every day, different. Loving it!!
As a side note, my SO went to the show w/ me last weekend where we had lots of St. Swithin discussions during and after. I returned home to find MINE in sheath. When I, being totally excited, told him about it he pointed to my hennisianum and asked if it was related, "because it's stripey too!" LOL! I showed him my roeb, since it is almost a parent and he was unmoved....That boy needs some learnin'!! Then again, it must be acknowledged that you-know-who could not put her greenhouse shelves together last night w/ out Mr. Physicist/Engineer's help. Sigh.....
Ok, here's the pic.....http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y134/ahmcd33/IMG_0239.jpg
Paphraguy April 26th, 2005, 07:05 PM Very nice! I can't wait to see how yours will come out! Mine are growing very rapidly.
Paphgirl April 26th, 2005, 07:09 PM Very nice! I can't wait to see how yours will come out! Mine are growing very rapidly.
So, does it look normal to you, then? Worried mom, strikes again!
Paphraguy April 26th, 2005, 07:27 PM It looks fine to me, why?
Paphgirl April 27th, 2005, 06:54 AM The stem holding the second and third buds seems a little droopy/heavy to me...
Park Bear April 27th, 2005, 07:40 AM looks great....all systems are a go
Paphraguy April 27th, 2005, 08:03 AM That is normal, so nothing to worry about. :therethere:
Paphgirl April 27th, 2005, 09:07 AM Whew, ok, good! I thought so but didn't know for certain, and as you know, I love to worry!
bench72 April 28th, 2005, 01:55 AM my small more compact roebellinii is Grace x Honey and the other one is Grace x Candor Red Streamers which gets quite large.
Hi,
I have a "Grace" x "Candor Red Streamers". The main growth has a leaf span of 7" and the new growth now has a leaf span of 3". Do you think this is blooming size yet?
And, Heather, this is just amazing watching the progress of your Paph roeb..... Thank you very much for sharing, it really means a lot to me to be able to see what I may hopefully be able to experience in the future...
Cheers
Tim
Paphgirl April 28th, 2005, 06:46 AM Tim, I'm so glad you and hopefully others are finding it useful. For me, as one who has not seen a lot of this in person until now, it is really amazing experiencing the progression!
Paphraguy April 28th, 2005, 08:29 AM Tim, I also have a roeb Grace x CRS (pics posted here in the gallery) and mine is now much larger in size. Mine was about 8-10 in LS before it produced new growths and it spiked for the first time with 3 or 4 new growths. At maturity, the leaves are now longer and more slender than they were at a younger age. I do have another roeb Grace x Honey that is more compact and stays smaller with shorter rounded tipped leaves. Hope this helps!
Paphgirl April 30th, 2005, 02:43 PM Very dark here today, if I can get a better shot tomorrow I will replace the image. Buds are plumping up fast! :-dance:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y134/ahmcd33/86a848f2.jpg
Paphraguy April 30th, 2005, 02:50 PM It is really growing fast, good job! The buds on my 2 roeb spikes are now finally opening. :-dance:
wolfcreekmn April 30th, 2005, 07:25 PM Hi Heather, it is looking good by next week there should be a open flower. :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:
Paphgirl April 30th, 2005, 08:49 PM Yes, that first one is getting ready to pop. I am excited!!
avery April 30th, 2005, 10:22 PM Heather , your plant looks perfectly normal to me ! Yes, it is dark dark dark !!! Can't wait to see its blooms !!! Probably have better flower count next time ! :D
Park Bear May 2nd, 2005, 09:20 AM yes, almost time :-dance:
Paphgirl May 2nd, 2005, 05:45 PM The first bud is beginning to open and I can see the fuzzy wuzzy petals. http://clicksmilies.com/s0105/liebe/love-smiley-030.gif

I won't do this every day, I promise!
Paphraguy May 3rd, 2005, 05:08 PM Arent' they just awesome? Mine are all opened almost except for the last buds. :-dance:
wolfcreekmn May 3rd, 2005, 08:28 PM Hi Heather very nice. It is hard to believe all that can be inside the bud.
Picsri May 3rd, 2005, 10:59 PM very exciting moment.... to see how the flower look like, and how long the petal is... can't wait to see the full booming...
Paphgirl May 5th, 2005, 05:31 PM 5/5/05, sorry so dark, having trouble getting photos in this location.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y134/ahmcd33/45fcbfe6.jpg
Paphraguy May 5th, 2005, 05:48 PM Yes, the photo is dark but I can tell the lowest bud has opened and unfurled its petals, beautiful, isn't it? Thanks for the update! I wonder how big your first time flowers will be. My roeb flowers this year actually have even longer petals than before and the same goes for my phil. Your flowers should get larger and better and hopefully more as they mature with the right conditions (of course).

Yes, of course. I have been pleasantly surprised with the improvements of my two Phrags which I've rebloomed. So, I understand time will tell how these improive as they mature.
(Did you see? That's my yellow bessie in front of the wallisii? This one has done much better with me!)
Park Bear May 6th, 2005, 08:02 AM great progress, you are having a problem with too much backlighting. If you can close your curtains or block the light from behind or take a photo at night with a flash you should be able to get a better picture. But I think you did great with as much backlighting as you have :clap2:
Paphgirl May 7th, 2005, 03:21 PM Ok, maybe better backlighting. I had an opportunity to take a better shot today, even though it is super dark here.
I didn't really realize about all the interior pouch veining. Very interesting to examine. LOVE watching these guys open for the first time - especially I mean MY first time. :D
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y134/ahmcd33/da5b4927.jpg
(ps - is photo too large? new version of my photo software and it has changed the sizing options. Let me know please.)
Paphraguy May 7th, 2005, 03:44 PM Your photo looks fine and the flower looks GREAT! How long are the petals now? They should still grow some more and then twist. Very nice and good job! :joy: Your first time seeing a roeb in bloom in person?
wolfcreekmn May 7th, 2005, 10:01 PM Hi Heather, looks very nice. :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:
Park Bear May 9th, 2005, 08:22 AM Looks good and I like the larger image, you see more detail :clap2:
Paphgirl May 10th, 2005, 04:59 PM Continuing to grow, petals are 5.5" so far...oh, and I just checked, no rare fragrance on this one!
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y134/ahmcd33/aa02c07b.jpg
Paphraguy May 10th, 2005, 05:04 PM The petals are beginning to twist, lovely! Your plant is compact compared to my Grace x CRS. The last 2 buds on mine have opened, so will post another pic very soon.

Yep, You saw it last night too, when it hadn't twisted so much. I'm LOVING this plant!!! (where's that lovey dovey icon when I need it? you should add it, hint hint! :poke: )
oh, here it is...http://clicksmilies.com/s0105/liebe/love-smiley-030.gif
bench72 May 10th, 2005, 05:30 PM Wow, Heather, your plant is amazingly lovely..
and thanks for posting the pic of the whole plant... it's nice to have that as a comparison to what would be blooming size... now if only we can have a pic of it next to a can of beer so I can judge the actual size. :innocent:
Thanks for the updates
Tim
Paphgirl May 10th, 2005, 05:46 PM Sorry Tim, the sun has dimisished, but maybe next time, ok? I think maybe the first message does list the size, but not sure. It is around 33 cm. in leafspan.
wolfcreekmn May 10th, 2005, 09:10 PM Hi Heather , very nice looking , and that is a nice compact plant I will have to add that one to my list for sure now.
elpaninaro May 10th, 2005, 10:36 PM Heather,
Wow what a beauty you have there! I have some roebelinii seedlings and may decide to keep the lot after seeing yours!
Looking forward to the next installment of pics :)
Paphgirl May 15th, 2005, 10:19 AM Second bud is open now and petals are continuing to lengthen and twirl.

Thanks everyone for looking, and for your kind words.
Tom I actually just ordered another grex of this. I'm hooked!!
Pete I understand now how phil (and relations) could set off this obsession for you!
Picsri May 15th, 2005, 10:26 AM very nice and strong plant..
Paphraguy May 15th, 2005, 10:50 AM Beautiful! The petals look more twisted, one of the many roeb features. Don't you just love this species?
Paphgirl May 15th, 2005, 10:52 AM Beautiful! The petals look more twisted, one of the many roeb features. Don't you just love this species?
Yep, I sure do. I took my SO's advice and elevated it this morning so it is easier and more prominent to see. Thank you Peter for the nudging you did to get me to buy this one...oh yes, and the other coming Wednesday! You are a good nudger! Hahaha!
Paphraguy May 15th, 2005, 10:56 AM So you put the roeb up on a pedestal? Good idea! That way you can enjoy and admire it. You should see my blooming phil next to my blooming roeb with so many flowers, just out of this world! I could stare at them all day long!
Paphgirl May 15th, 2005, 10:58 AM So you put the roeb up on a pedestal? Good idea! That way you can enjoy and admire it. You should see my blooming phil next to my blooming roeb with so many flowers, just out of this world! I could stare at them all day long!
I wish I could! I'm certain I'd likely faint seeing so many of these beauties open at once!
fred May 15th, 2005, 01:11 PM Hi Heather , your plant is looking great. Is this from Al's? Would you know if he has these in bud.I love the way the petals look. has to be my fovorites. A society told me yeaterday he has a Sandy in bloom and a Roth. He refuses to bring them to meetings so afraid of contamation from someone eleses plants. Guess it happened to him once and he has an awesome collection . He dosen't mind if anyone goes to visit but will not take them out.I should be getting my Roth this week. Ray
Paphgirl May 15th, 2005, 01:47 PM Hi Fred!
Nope, I didn't get mine from Al, and I don't think the vendor had other ones in bud at the time.
Why don't you email or PM Al about it directly? He's a member here, and also welcomes email/questions on his website.
Paphgirl May 24th, 2005, 07:56 PM Almost in full bloom but not quite. Anyway, I love it. Petals are only about 6-7" long, third one still twisting and elongating.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y134/ahmcd33/IMG_0561.jpg
wolfcreekmn May 24th, 2005, 08:13 PM Hi Heather , looks really nice !!!
Paphraguy May 24th, 2005, 08:23 PM Yep, looks great! Love those twisted petals!
fred May 24th, 2005, 08:30 PM Great plant i love those colors . Good job. Ray
Paphgirl May 24th, 2005, 08:40 PM Well, thanks. It isn't the greatest composition, and it is a bit blurry and dark. I'll work on another when the third bloom is fully finished growing. Maybe the sunshine will prove its' existance by then....
TADD May 24th, 2005, 08:46 PM Wow that looks great! You must be estatic! Only one thing could make that a little nicer....add a little fairrieanum to it :poke: Congrats! That is awesome! ... errr... excuse me wicked awesome to quote you yanks.
Paphgirl May 24th, 2005, 09:01 PM Wow that looks great! You must be estatic! Only one thing could make that a little nicer....add a little fairrieanum to it :poke: Congrats! That is awesome! ... errr... excuse me wicked awesome to quote you yanks.
Pfft! No fairries allowed in my lovely species! No no no!
But thanks, yes, I think it is wicked (!!) awesome. So much so I bought another cross of it.
couscous74 May 24th, 2005, 10:45 PM Heather,
It's been really cool to look back and see the progress of this plant. Love the colors.
I may have to put this on my wishlist for the next time I decide to expand my paph collection.
Park Bear May 25th, 2005, 07:54 AM well worth the wait, just beautiful
Picsri May 25th, 2005, 09:59 AM very nice .. Heather.. Great job... :clap2: :clap2:
Paphgirl May 26th, 2005, 01:26 PM Ok, now you don't all have to reply again, just another update on this blooming. :D Thanks so much for all the nice comments!
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y134/ahmcd33/534eeaf2.jpg
Sorry it is so blurry, I was literally running out the door when I took it this morning.
Paphraguy May 26th, 2005, 01:43 PM Beautiful! I can now see the twisted petals much better!
Paphraguy May 27th, 2005, 08:24 AM I added your last roeb picture to the little "screensaver" on top, hope that is ok with you!
TADD May 27th, 2005, 08:26 AM Looks Great! I like the new addition of pictures to the forum pages!
Paphgirl May 31st, 2005, 10:40 AM Perhaps a final update, when I had a fleeting moment of sunshine yesterday. I keep waiting for better lighting to try for some more professional photos, but it just isn't staying bright here in the Northeast, for more than a few hours a day, if that!
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y134/ahmcd33/73642645.jpg
Gideon June 2nd, 2005, 01:36 AM It is a stunner, I will be on the look out for one of these.
