Thought I'd start another follow along post...stay tuned.
This plant came from HP Norton as (Peru 4n x Ecuador 4n) as a tiny seedling fresh out of the compot. It is much bigger and wider than my 2n one, and I am so anxious to see the size of the flower. The first pic is next to a foot long ruler. I'll keep ya posted.

Paphgirl April 14th, 2005, 06:32 PM Beautiful plant, Jon - thanks for the info on the spotting too. I would imagine my besseaes and hybrids could be a little cooler, I've been keeping them rather moist also, the first one I had flopped, due to my idiocy, but now has a new growth that looks very good. I actually put it in straight diatomite a month or so ago, as an experiment. My better besseae is in a seedling mix.
Oh, and I know I'm still low on the humidity front!
Is that the mix you were talking about in the potting mix thread? Interesting!
Jon in SW Ohio April 14th, 2005, 07:42 PM That's the mix, but it would have gotten repotted if I hadn't noticed the spike...it's been in this for almost a year.

Update
Sorry again for the gap in time.
Hoping this plant is in bloom for the Louisville show...but it might just have to wait for the Columbus show
Enjoy

Paphgirl May 12th, 2005, 02:37 PM Growing pretty fast there, Jon! Good work, and can't wait to see it when it opens!

Well it just opened yesterday and was put in the Louisville KY show this afternoon. Not as large as I had hoped for, but not bad for a first bloom. Sorry for the color quality...the second pic is close but it changes color depending on the type of lighting. In the sun, the best way I could describe it is fluorescent tomato soup colored.
I took lots of slipper photos at the show as Windy Hill and Orchid Inn were there. I will have them up late tomorrow probably.

Here's another photo of the newest bud opening...sorry for the HPS lighting.
I wish it wouldn't have opened the day before the show...as it is now 9cm wide by 7cm vertical and wasn't that big during judging. Comparing it to the awards the size is excellent, but it isn't as round as some I've seen. I will show the new flower at the Columbus show next weekend and hope for the best...although our local judges are not fans of granting lateral awards.
Anyway...I will definately be saving pollenia from this guy.
Thanks for looking,
Jon
Paphgirl May 26th, 2005, 06:48 AM Simply gorgeous, Jon! Good luck with it this weekend, I'll be hoping for you!
Park Bear May 26th, 2005, 07:37 AM I love the color and the pouch striping :clap2:
Paphraguy May 26th, 2005, 08:40 AM Very nice indeed! Mine is on the last bud and my yellow bess is in bud, the first bud disappeared mysteriously.
