Hi,

Just received a phrag hirtzi from ecuador and willing to give it good conditions. I could not make up my mind with the information from orchidspecies ( http://www.orchidspecies.com/phraghirtzii.htm )

Does it like bright light or shade ?
Much water ? Very pure ?
Much fertilizer ?
Calcium supplement ?

Many thanks

Phrag hirtzii is a water lover so it likes to stay wet and prefer pure water and do not like to be over fertilized. The species also likes high light. Good luck and I can't wait to see it in bloom pictures!:D

Thanks ! I'll try to make it happy. Actually I currently have one flower on it just opening, there's nothing to be proud about because I received it with a spike. I might post a picture later. It is tiny and delicate, very cute indeed.

Sorry I forgot to introduce myself. I'm from france I have about 800 orchids, 250 of which are paphs species and primary hybrids (60% are still young) and 20 phrags.

Congratulations for the forum, seems to be a very nice place to talk about slipper orchids !

Here's a picture. The dorsal sepal has a funny shape, maybe it is related to the recent transport or maybe the flower hasn't opened completely yet. Anyway I suggest we name it Hirtzii 'the King' :D
