TADD January 21st, 2006, 07:22 AM Wow, what type of mix are they in? Do those pots have holes in the bottoms? Do these grow in a greenhouse?
Nynaeve January 21st, 2006, 08:28 AM Very cool! I want to make a bog, how did you do it??? I have an s. purpurea and a flytrap...both looking VERY crappy right now...but I have had them outside in the cold weather and I heard it was normal for them to die off a bit and then come back. I hope that is true!
Ron-NY January 21st, 2006, 09:13 AM yes, please give us some info on how you are growing these!
Paphgirl January 21st, 2006, 09:50 AM Very nice Eric!

The plants are in a 50/50 mix of peat moss and perlite (the standard CP soil). Yes, there are holes in the bottoms but I leave them plug since these plants love to be on the wet side. Nope, these plants are grown outside.

Well, get a container (make sure its clean); fill the pot with 50/50 mix of peat and perlite, plant the plants, place the plant in a saucer with 2 inches of water, and sit back and relax. CP tend to looky crapy this time of year due to dormancy. CP are perennials but how cold is ur weather? I'm in the northeast part of the US and I leave my plants in garage cause I know my plants will die from the cold weather.

Well, growing Sarracenia is quite easy actually. Bring them outside, place them in a saucer of water, place them where they would recieve a lot of sunlight and let mother nature take care of the rest. Once October 31 hits, the plants should be in dormancy. Depending on ur location, u could bring ur plants into an unheated area (garage) or leave them outside. During this time, spray the plants with fungicide and ONLY water the plants when the soil feels dry. Bring the plant out of dormancy in March.
Hope this helps.
Also I have Carnivorous Plant website:

It is mostly 40-50F at night with occasional dips in the 30s. They aren't totally dead, but have brown tips.[/quote]
eplants02 January 21st, 2006, 04:01 PM yea, the plants would definately come back.
Park Bear January 24th, 2006, 07:46 AM They look great!! I usually keep tropicals because I am not very good about letting them go to dormancy...I usually forget about them or bring them into the house and not provide dormancy.

Me too! I'm terrible about dormant periods. It takes all of my effort to turn down the lights and reduce watering in the winter for my paphs. Jeez, if I had to watch them turn brown and drop leaves.... no way. :):):)
Anyway, very cool bog you've got there! I'm going to try that myself in the summer, its a great idea! For the time being, I'll stick with my Nepenthes inside :)
