Hello all, I bought a Phrag Besseae (sp)last October because for some reason, I thought it would be a more compact plant. It is now in spike (which makes me happy happy). I would like to get a Phrag. besseae flavum('Aztec Sun' x Sun Dance'') which I can BUT Orchid Web said this can be a big plant.

Question: Can I expect my Besseae to get big? Will it try to climb out of the pot as have heard the Hanne Popow does?

:OMG:

Most besseae plants that I have seen do stay compact and then I have seen a few that grew quite large with many growths and some climbed out of the pots and some didn't.

I thought that besseae flavum was smaller growing than regular besseae.

I have seen both the red and yellow ones and they were of same sizes.

I have both a besseae and a plavum and the flavum is slightly smaller.

Both my red and yellow besseae plants are about the same size. The yellow one may be slightly smaller but hardly noticeable. I had another red besseae a few years ago and it grew quite large, so large I had to give it away or sold it because it was taking up a lot of space.

I think that one is a Phrag St Ouen but I could be wrong. Ayeron could tell more.

Under my expert care, besseaes tend to become more compact over time. :)

Size is relative! For someone who grows Cadetias or miniature lepanthes, a Phrag besseae seems quite large. However, for Phrags, I find that besseae is on the smaller side. They can have multiple growths and be large in that manner, but each growth is pretty compact. In my experience, both flavum and the regular red flower type are the same size.
