2647 my orchid scociety sponsored a trec into a wildlife preserve in central illinois close to where i live, going on this trip was a experiance ill never forget, i have included some pictures of the flowers , the area in wich they were growing , and the drawing i made as of a result of seeing these beauties in person.. i hope you like:), i feel it is very important to preserve these flowers and there native habitat for all time, our scociety has a conservation program where pollination and protection of the wild growing population is being monitored,

2671 here are a few more pics from this same trip, showing the protective cages place around the orchids to protect them, and to also show how the pollinated flowers are tagged for monitering purposes, also i included a picture of a companion orchid that grows along side these slipper orchids that blooms at the same time, called the showy orchis, the flowering time varyies according to temerature and conditions from year to year im told, we went at the end of may , the location of the plant colonies is kept quit for the protection of the orchids, but if you contact the illowa orchid scociety of the quad cities , im shure arrangements can be made to witness the glorious blooming of these flowers during there blooming season :) i hope this was helpfull to anyone interested :)
