There are so many slipper hybrids but I have never seen any phrag and paph hybrids? Are there any or are they just not that common?

Are there any or are they just not that common? ehanes7612 May 3rd, 2010, 10:25 PM nope....i used to hear about one hybrid 15 years ago casey May 3rd, 2010, 10:29 PM If you mean a Phrag crossed with a Paph then the answer is no. Many attempts have been made but so far no success as far as I'm aware of. skipper May 4th, 2010, 07:40 AM I'm not so sure but there is one registered. Funny we dont see it for sale. Bill Zimmerman May 4th, 2010, 11:28 AM There are about a handful of such hybrids, but they are all questionable. All of the pictures I've seen show plants that show characteristics of paphs and little or none of the phrags. It seems that they are either not what they are proported to be or there is something genetically going on that disguises the phrag influence. My guess is the former not the latter. Paul B May 4th, 2010, 12:29 PM this subject comes up every now and then. if they exist we should see them by now!!! phragmip May 4th, 2010, 01:53 PM LOL This I wasnt even aware of or thought of so I'm glad that you brought it up. orchidlover May 4th, 2010, 06:36 PM There are about a handful of such hybrids, but they are all questionable. Paul B May 5th, 2010, 08:09 AM i remember that plant. i think they are just fakes. Paphraguy May 5th, 2010, 10:56 AM The answer is a plain no. Chosen One May 6th, 2010, 05:56 PM If it were possible to inter breed Paphs and Phrags then we should see them but since we don't what does that tell you? newbie May 6th, 2010, 07:04 PM Thanks for the responses! So that means it is the same reason we don't see any paph or phrag cyp hybrids? dragonfly22 May 6th, 2010, 10:40 PM It would be nice but they don't exist. orchidlover May 7th, 2010, 08:32 AM If it were possible to inter breed Paphs and Phrags then we should see them but since we don't what does that tell you? :iagree::iagree: newbie May 7th, 2010, 10:54 AM Thanks again for the responses! newbie May 7th, 2010, 10:55 AM If it were possible to inter breed Paphs and Phrags then we should see them but since we don't what does that tell you? That makes sense. Never thought of that. |
