Does any one have this one and if so how are you doing with it? It's go a rep for being tough to culture. There was a short thread started on the OSF, but I didnt come across any success stories on it.

I looked up an article by Fowlie (1973) reprinted in Orchid Digest in 2003 where he looked at a population at 3700 ft elevation in Brazil. It was in a peat bog. Should be quite acidic. The roots were always in water which smelled funky.

It's not that different from the way I keep my pearceii.. :cheeky: :cheeky: :cheeky:

It is not a common species and I don't have one. If I had one, I would grow it just like I grow my ecuadorense and richteri.

The other story behind vitatum was that many imported plants (in Europe) of that specie turned out to be Phrag chapadense which seems to grow in the same neigbourhood

I ordered a Phrag. Mem. Dick Clements from Orchids Limited years ago in a large order and it never looked quite right. When it finally bloomed, I thought it was vittatum although not an exact match. I am waiting for it to bloom again now that chapadense and brasiliense have been described. I e-mailed them when it bloomed as to its possible ID but never got a reply. I always suspected it was an undescribed species and when the OD had a description for brasiliense from Orchids Limited, my jaw dropped.

I will be sure to share it with you all for opinions when it blooms as it is a large multi-growth plant. I have never had any problems growing it along side all my other phrags.

Hello,

This phrag. Vitatum likes too much sunny , like a dendrobium don´t worry let´s him get a sun too much cause in situ has just a little vegetation in the floor, not have a shadow, your leves has a lists yellow if your phrag don´t have, he need more sun ok !! this pharg likes acid soil and pure water, if you put sandy in the misture is good.
Chapadense is a little bit diferent, don´t put in the sun cause burn your leaves, a lot of sun but not direct. acid soil too and pure water. If you need more information send me mail ok !!!

I grow them in São Roque (800 m altitude) 60km from São Paulo - Brazil. As my friend has told he needs lots of sun and pure water. I grow them together with Phrag. sargentianum and kltzcheanum potted in plastic potts with sphagnum. Just this. I do not give them too much sun so they grow well but they do not bloom very well!!! If I give them more sun they will bloom a lot.
The plant is very similar to chapadense but you can see diferences too and when you see the flower it is completely diferent.
Any other information let us know!!!
