View Full Version : So, who is going to the 2006 DC Paph Forum? Bob in Albany, N.Y. January 5th, 2006, 02:19 PM Inquiring minds want to know. If there is much of response, maybe we can think of some type of way of indentifying us as poster or lurkers on this forum. Ron-NY January 5th, 2006, 02:23 PM Bob, what you can do is where this: http://storetn.cafepress.com/8/25379778_F_store.jpg nyorchids January 5th, 2006, 02:28 PM bob you know i am going! because we are car pooling! :D Paphraguy January 5th, 2006, 02:34 PM Bob, what you can do is where this: http://storetn.cafepress.com/8/25379778_F_store.jpg Ron, I was going to suggest that but you beat me to it! :D Here is the LINK (http://www.cafepress.com/slipperorchid.25379778) Or get a SOF button. Lots of other choices. silence882 January 5th, 2006, 03:24 PM I was gonna have SOF tattooed on my forehead so people would recognize me.... Or, just look for the youngest person there. --Stephen Bob in Albany, N.Y. January 5th, 2006, 03:41 PM Ron, I don't think I want to stand out quite that much. A button may be more to my liking. More money for paphs when only buying a button. I see we have suggestions on how to be indentified but we won't need this is only Stan and I am going. Truth be told I'm going to stand out without a button. I doubt many men will be sporting long red hair and a red moustach. Oh yea, thats me. Any else going? Ron-NY January 5th, 2006, 04:36 PM Bob you have always been easy to pick out in a crowded room :poke: My first post should have read wear. Peter I wish the edit button was always functionable. I always catch errors after they are too late to edit..hint...hint :( Paphgirl January 5th, 2006, 04:38 PM I was hoping to go, but it is my local society's show and I've committed to all sorts of volunteering. Maybe in 2007? metama January 5th, 2006, 06:14 PM I am planning on going. Not sure if I am going to drive or take the train. Anyone heading down from Philadelphia? Phil Shady Character January 5th, 2006, 09:04 PM If I weren't broke, I'd be there. nyorchids January 5th, 2006, 09:22 PM I was gonna have SOF tattooed on my forehead so people would recognize me.... My slippers are up in my bedroom, definitely not getting pampered, but appear to be doing ok. I have a motley assortment, a few from Al's, forum purchases, quite a few from a GW acquaintance, Dan, who gifted me with a number of plants in the fall, alot of them are blooming!, hope I run into him at the forum...I'm happy that I'm living close enough to NCOS to take advantage of this forum-I think it's going to be fun! If you see me at the forum, please stop & chat-I'll be wearing a purple tee under my SF hoodie, I'd love to meet any of you guys who are on the forum. I can't wait to go shopping, too, I've purchased from 4 of the vendors, I think, & I'd like to up my number...Thistle/Linda Paphraguy February 8th, 2006, 09:30 AM Hi Linda, Thanks and hope you like the SOF hoodie! :D Have fun at the show and hopefully you can post pics for us. nyorchids February 13th, 2006, 07:44 PM so everyone who is going put your name down on this thread because they are handing out name tags so we can keep an eye out for everyone! mine is stan fazi(nyorchids) Slipperhead February 17th, 2006, 10:20 AM I'll be there with 5 or 6 of my Virginia Orchid Society friends. Give me a shout and let's say hello! Garland Hanson P.S. I'll check this thread again tomorrow morning before I leave (5am or so). silence882 February 17th, 2006, 01:56 PM I will be there! Stephen Manza. I'll be the one stumbling in late, hungover, with 9 cameras and a surly disposition. Ki February 17th, 2006, 04:31 PM John in DC will be there. Bob in Albany will not. And as the music continues, I now have an extra ticket. Garland - have you been lurking all this time? Slipperhead February 17th, 2006, 04:39 PM Ki, Since the forum has been sold out for a week or so, maybe you can scalp it at the door!!! Actually, quite a number of people show up thinking they can pay at the door and find that the event has filled. I wish I know of someone else in my club that would want to go. Hopefully you can find someone that can use it! I moved back to the VA homeland 18 months ago. Now that my business (safety training & consulting) is becoming established, I'm getting quite busy and don't have the time to spend on the forum as before. I still log on and look at the pics and the culture discussions as much as I can. So, YES, I'm still lurking. Looking forward to seeing you, John, and others tomorrow morning. Allen Black and I will be there at the opening to check out the sales area and to enter plants. While I am stuck here repotting hundreds (probably closer to thousand) of pleuorthallis :( Slipperhead February 18th, 2006, 10:45 PM BIG FUN at the Paph Forum today! Excellent presentations on paph/phrag awards for 2005 (all by category and fairly extensive), the miniature complexes, and the history and contributions of Radcliffe Orchids in complex paphs since 1936 (or so)! I particularly enjoyed the presentation on the species of Vietnam. Seeing clothes baskets FULL of collected plants for sale on the side of the road was incredible! Photos of hangianums, micranthums, and others by the THOUSANDS and many rotting while stored on the ground! Beautiful photos of MANY variations of hangianum, vietnamese, emersonii, etc. There were hundreds of plants submitted for ribbon judging and a fair number for AOS judging. The vendor section was fantastic!!! It was great fun to attend an NBS (nothin' but slippers) show!!! It was nice to see Ki, John-N-DC, and to meet NYORCHIDS!!! Photos to follow.... My haul from today included: (LOTS of instant and near-future gratification!!!) Armeni-white in bud (2) Radcliffe Magic Lantern in flower (10 times better than the one I have...) Woodstream Faniticum NBS Radcliffe hainanense in spike ($10!!!) Radcliffe Becky Fouke (Armeni White x prim) NBS Parkside Phrag. warcewiczianum in spike ($35) Orchid Enterprises??? (A local DC/Balt guy) Paph. Jade lauren Whales NBS (Christmas Snow x White Knight) reported to be a clean, mid-sized white from Radcliffe Phrag Cape Sunset (3N) in flower!!!! Woodstream Koopowitz reports that this is a premier slipper event and one of his favorites!!! See you in 2007! Paphraguy February 18th, 2006, 11:14 PM Nothing but slippers sounds like slipper heaven to me. Garland, sounds like you had fun. I'm looking forward to seeing your pics! Gideon February 18th, 2006, 11:54 PM Nice purchuses, please post pics Nynaeve February 19th, 2006, 10:10 AM Yes do post pics! You can join the warce race! Ki February 19th, 2006, 04:15 PM I really enjoyed Koopowitz' mini paph presentation. He also has an article in the current Orchid Digest. You have to love some of the names given these ones - Tyke, Baby Baby, Little by Little.... One of the old small complexes he mentioned was on the show table, Paph Dalla, which was in something like a 3.5" pot: http://static.flickr.com/30/101278820_5e7cac7c02.jpg and a couple of shots of two sales tables after lunch (sales opened at 8am): http://kyi.info/paphforum1.jpg ornaments *everywhere* http://kyi.info/paphforum2.jpg (Garland - hope you made it back in time!) |
