WOW!
My little roeb has a bit to grow before it will be such a specimen as yours! Makes me excited for mine to bloom! The spike is growing rather quickly.

That will be a magnificent sight when those bloom, Peter. Maybe the older one will hang on long enough?

Thanks! The blooms are now beginning to fade, so I really doubt it.

Peter
You can't post a picture like that and not tell us how long those petals are!

Those flowers have great color too. How bout a flower close up pic?

The longest petals are 8" long and for a close up, scroll down below, I have posted a closeup photo in an older post.

Do you know anything about philipinnense "Bates" or "Too Goo Doo"?

It's an old plant I resurected from a friend of mine. I think it origionaly came from Orchids Limited.

It's blooms are opening now, and the petals are pushing 8". Do you think its got roebelini in it?

I really like this plant. I will be ordering from B&B, I hope next week, this plant is on the wish list.

Rick, I don't know about 'Bates' but I think Too Goo Doo is a roebellini, not 100% sure, though.

PB, yes, you should get one from B&B, that is where mine came from. :)

Heather, my other roeb (Grace x Honey) is more compact just like your Pam x Grace.

WOW, that is some plant. Look forward to seeing the other spikes open. Peter- how long does it take growths (from development) to flower on such a plant.

David, I just got one in sheath about a week and a half ago....I'll time it and let you know. Growing quickly so far.

Heather - I was talking more in the lines of how many years does a growth take to mature from development. I gather it would be around 3 years, but possibly two in good growing conditions. I have a mature Lady Isabel with one growth flowered, one growth nearly ready to mature and a couple of small leads. Those small leads are growing so slowly it is hard to see them flowering in the next 4 years. Patience.

This particular cross is a fast grower. I would guess it took the growths about 2 years to reach maturity and flower, from tiny starts. I have another cross, 'Grace' x 'Honey' which is more compact and slower growing.

Here are the updated pics. The flowers on the first spike are now fading and dying off. The two new spikes have 4 buds each.

Oh Peter, that is going to be magnificent isn't it? I just wish that first one had slowed down a little to let the others catch up! On the bright side though, you'll be able to enjoy the blooms longer than otherwise.

Thanks so much for a great update! :joy:

So, tell me again how you EVER leave your growing space? I LOVE seeing both of these side by side!! Very good education also since so many people don't understand the subtle differences between philippinense and roebelinii.

You are an excellent grower. Makes me smile knowing how much you have helped me in the last year! I'm one lucky girl! 8)

Thanks, aren't they just gorgeous?? I had to stake the spikes so they were not spread out in every direction and the stakes are really such an eyesore.
