Paphgirl April 8th, 2005, 03:23 PM I don't know about us, probably a bit early. If it is nice tomorrow, maybe I'll try to go for a run out on my trails and check the area where they grow. Paphraguy April 8th, 2005, 03:25 PM Yeah, please do and if you find any take pics. I think it is still a little too early for us. fundulopanchax April 8th, 2005, 10:08 PM Here in SW CT the Cyp pubescens are all well on their way - about half of mature height. They are the earliest here. The populations I monitor had nothing yet last weekend, which makes them perhaps a week later than usual but the spring has been very cold. They are making up time now in that only bud tips were seen on Tuesday; yesterday was warm and they were about two inches up in the evening, and this evening (Friday) on the way home after more warmth and sun, I found a number of stems were more than 6 inches in height - once pubescens starts it doesnt waste any time! The Cyp acaule will probably not show anything for a couple of weeks yet. I dont know of any native populations of Cyp reginae in the area but the ones in the garden will not pop through the mulch until the beginning of May - they are the very latest bloomers among the NE Cyps. Ron Burch Paphgirl April 9th, 2005, 09:48 AM Well, I went out to my area this morning, but found no acaule showing yet. I did however, find that the mosquitos are awakening. Oh yip yip! Paphraguy April 9th, 2005, 09:58 AM Well, I went out to my area this morning, but found no acaule showing yet. I did however, find that the mosquitos are awakening. Oh yip yip! Thanks for the update and I hope the poachers didn't get to them this year! The ones in my area have already been poached! Park Bear April 9th, 2005, 04:20 PM too bad on the poachers, I would too afraid that I would kill the plants. Jon in SW Ohio April 12th, 2005, 01:02 AM Sorry to hear about the poachers...that's why I keep mine pretty secreted, and some in containers. All my pubescens are about an inch above the soil today and the reginaes are not visible yet...but they are buried under about three more inches of leaves than the pubescens are. The pubescens tend to bloom around Mother's Day so it's going to be a while. My Habenaria lacera plants are already about two inches tall...but they don't bloom until mid summer. My outdoor Liparis lilifolia aren't up yet, but the ones inside are a couple inches tall...but I fear chipmunks may have eaten the ones outside cause they can find them without any trouble. These are all on my photographing list...I'll put them up here when I'm done. Jon wolfcreekmn April 16th, 2005, 01:19 PM Hello I looked today to see if my Cypripedium parviflorum parviflorum were coming up and they are just starting to come out of the ground. :clap2: :clap2: My 2 Cypripedium reginae groups havent done anything yet, it is a little early for these guys. One of the groups are young plants so I have to wait awhile. The other one I hope will bloom this year  RickL April 16th, 2005, 01:32 PM One of our society members said her yellows are just now poking up. Still nothing from mine though. The Jack in the Pulpits are coming up though. When they show its usually time for some Cyps, and morell mushrooms. Nashville TN Park Bear April 16th, 2005, 09:45 PM I'm going to go out tomorrow and see if I can find any while hiking after church. fred April 17th, 2005, 10:45 AM This is a first for me bought Kentuckenesie know I spelled that wrong last year and the flower was just starting to fade when I planted it really didn't fuss over it but planted it in soil conditions it likes I live in a wooded area with pines and leaf mold and planted along with some ferns nearby in the fall I made sure I buried the area with leafs and pine needles and a few weeks ago I took that all off and checked it on Fri. and it is pushing up already. now I wish I had bought more as I had gotten it pretty cheap. It came from VR. I am thinking of buying some of the ones that grow naturally around these parts being the standard pink variety. Ray |
