OK, here's another capsule question. I have a capsule for a Vini/Roth cross that I'm guessing *should* mature in February or March. Today, while watering, I noticed a pleasant little surprise as it is in bud and has a nice new growth as well.

I think it is a nice surprise, however I did read somewhere on the forum that sometimes dying plants will go into bud as a last ditch attempt to reproduce and I know that carrying a pod really drains a plant of its energy.

Should I snip off the bud (hate to do it) or just let it be? Is this normal? The plant looks healthy enough. I tried to take a photo, but it came out blurry.

Help Again!

Thanks

As I understand it, a plant moving into panic mode would be noticeably deteriorating. A new little growth doesn't seem to fit.

Yes, the new growth, new bud, and pod will place a strain on the plant. How many mature growths does the plant have?

Hi Stephen, It has 4 growths. 1 is P/B, 1 has the capsule, 1 has the bud, and 1 is new. It is not a young plant. It has had at least two older growths that had naturally died off.

I mean it looks really good; foliage and all. I was surprised by the new start AND the bud.

I have had muti-growth plants carry a capsule, mature new growths and rebloom all at the same time with no ill effects. It's probably happening because you have a vigorous, healthy plant!

I agree with Ross! The plant should be able to handle all three just fine. I would've only been concerned if the pod were on the first growth and the bud was on the second. That would be pushing it, in my opinion, in terms of what a plant can handle. With previous growths, your plant should stay fat and happy.
