Anyone bloom one? How long did it take to go from the sheath emerging to, well, anything else happening? LOL! Mine's in freeze mode. Grew well for about three weeks and then slowed to a halt. Any thoughts?
Thanks! :)

My esq is the same way but at least the bud is now growing so very slowly!

I can't wait to see your tig bloom!

I know, I almost mentioned how long our twins took to emerge from their comfy homes. Mine is also doing well, spike is really quite short.

The tigrinum, I wish would do something though. I have heard a few stories about sheaths not making it but don't know why!

I heard malipeonse takes the longest to bloom from bud. Unfortunately, I knocked my mali bud off the stem a couple of months ago, accidently! :x

Haha, I just found my smushy pic of my malipoense doom, er, um, I mean BLOOM!

Bad luck slipper? :?
I personally, have often wondered if your's would have fared better than mine despite the differences in our conditions.

I don't know but I think my mali stem was longer than yours. The new growth is actually producing a brand new leaf. I guess we both have to wait a long time before they spike for us again.

Hi Heather
My Tigrinum was really fast to flower. I think that from first sign of bud to open flower was maybe 8 weeks. A lot faster than many of my other species.
It's only just finished flowering, here is a link to a photo I took about a month ago:

Oh Kim! Wonderful (and welcome, by the way!)
I wonder what is going on w/ mine, though clearly your conditions are probably rather different than mine. Thanks for the input!

Hi, Kim and welcome to the forum! Great pic of your tig. My tigrinum is also a fast grower but hasn't spiked for me yet. Yours is just beautiful!

I have found that tigrinum is very easy to bloom, but it does spend a long time in sheath...and should be kept cool during that time. Take acre, Eric

I'm not sure how cool it has been. Cool at night and cloudy days, yes, cool when the sun's been out, nope.

My kolo has also been in sheath for months now. The plant is fast growing but when it comes to sheath, slow as a turtle!

I'm somewhat worried that the buds may have rotted or something and that is why they have stopped. I had this happen to a Paul Parks that was putting up double spikes.

Well, I think my tig sheath, upon this weeks inspection, is still growing. Seems taller, but not fattening up any. The base of the growths is really getting a bit of a purplish tinge to it. I'm really wondering if I am giving it a bit more warmth and even sun than it is wanting. In fact, I'm taking the temp there now and it is at 95° right now where the tigrinum sits. We're having a nice sunny day today. Probably doesn't get up above 75 on a cloudy day. Evening temps are around 58-60°.

There are pics in the gallery. I'm not sure how well you can see the base color, but wondered if that was normal or from the sun (you know like Catts leaves turn reddish?)

Thanks!

Kim is in New Zealand (right?) Isn't New Zealand in the southern hemisphere? Geography isn't my strong suit. If so, we hopeful tigrinum growers in the northern half of the globe probably have quite some time before dispairing. Lynn at Antec told me that they can bud up as long as the sheath stays green - anytime from Spring to Summer.

I'm hoping for something this year too.

John

P.S. Glad to be here on the new paph forum.

Hey John! Nice to see ya here! Glad you found us!

Ummm....erhhmmm....my sheath is purple! Been that way since the beginning. A nice dark currant color. just like my car. So what does THAT mean?? Recent piccies in the gallery, upon request! :D

Thanks Heather. Always nice to have a place to post woes/successes.

Lynn probably meant "not brown and shrivelled". I have some of those too, on older growths. My new ones are greeney-purple. Or purpley-green. Hope springs eternal. :)
