This sucker has been in spike for a couple of months now. It grew fairly quickly to this point. The spike looks good but the 'sheath' looks empty right now. I hope it fills out and blooms some time... I have two of these plants that have stalled; one at this point and the other just as the sheath is emerging from the crown of the plant. What do you think?

For me, this plant has been a fast grower and a fast spiker as well. Mine just finished blooming and another growth already in spike which looks close to blooming. Maybe, your plant is just taking its sweet time  . It looks very nice and healthy to me.

Last summer/fall my appletonium (wolterianum?) did the same thing. It eventually finished just fine. I think the most frequent time for these guys to bloom is fall. I could check some dates when I get home tonight if your interested. So from some limited past experience I also get nervous about bracts and spikes held for long time out of season. If I have the season correct for hainanense, it may prefer to bloom with shortening days (less light) and cooling temps. Opposite to what's generally going on now in spring. If you are looking for any ideas for intervention all I could suggest is finding a cooler/darker area of your growing space.

Slipperhead -- don't think there is anything wrong with your paph - looks healthy leaves are holding up nicely --sometimes they do seem to take forever to flower - it could be also trying to send up next growth as well as flowering - if it was failing the bud goes yellow and brown very quickly 2-4 days .you bud seems fine -in about 6 weeks youll be posting a flower for us .
