1st bloom in spite of me trying to kill it. :poke: What I didn't know was how transparent this flower is. It looks very cool with light shining through it.

What's the parentage of that plant? I've got one starting to open up now too.

SpottyX Erruption.

How long have you had yours, and how many growths?

I haven't had mine for over a year and it hasn't put on a second growth yet. Roots look good though.

It's a single growth plant. Parents are 'Burgundy Tips' x self.

I also have a Paph Argus in bloom right now. Tell me does yours open fully? I have waited for 2 weeks now waiting for the petals on mine to flatten out so I can finally take a picture. So far its not happening. I'll take a picture and post it so you'll know what I mean.

Mine is going very slowly too. I think because its been so cloudy and cool out here. It seems to get little bursts when I get a few sunny warm days in a row, and that part of my greenhouse will push 90.

This species is quite high on my most-wanted list. Can you tell me what the leaf span of the blooming growth is? It's a good-looking! 8)

Paph. argus, not Paph. Argus. It is a species. *grin*

Your petals may never flatten out. I have a dozen or so seedlings blooming right now, and none of them ever got really 'flat'. They all have a little undulation to them. Here is a picture of one of mine.

I haven't seen a post from you in a while. I'm still waiting for my suk flower to open to use that pollen of yours.

I have two argus, and they are allot different in size. The one I got from Orchids Limited (that's about to bloom now) is about 6 or so across.

I have another one from Woodstream that is a couple of inches bigger, but doesn't show any sign of blooming this spring.

Thanks, but you haven't seen the plant. It's almost dead! I just cut the spike off to try to save it. I should've done it a lot sooner, but wanted to see it bloom. The flower looks nice in a glass. Like I said...it bloomed in spite of me! The flower did flatten out and spread a bit more. I moved it to a nice "airy" azalea type pot. Those deep 4" square pots just do not work for me. I'm done with them! Everything I move to the shallow pots does much better in my conditions. In fact, most I've acquired were grown up in the shallow pots, so I'm not sure why I moved them now...(well, I did it bc that's what people told me to do...)live and learn... I'm hoping to see a new growth on this single growth plant soon. This was one of my "earlier" Paphs...I think I've learned how to take care of it by now...

How are your suks and venustums doing in comparison?

suk's a venustums are doing quite well now that I give them lots of fertilizer :? That's one of the venustum's next to my screenname. And, they're all in the shallower, 4" rounds with the raised cones in the bottom...love those pots! The real issue with the argus is I just plain messed it up...initially I gave it too much light and not enough food/water...everything else "recovered" nicely but that one.

Those damn myths out there really can screw us newbs...I hear you Terp! Did the same thing w/ a PEOY....poor PEOY....I'm still trying to get it to grow a root. It has two new growths though, in it's little private posh greenhouse baggie!

but still no roots....
It was so beautious when it arrived, and I had to go and underwater and practically kill it. http://clicksmilies.com/s0105/aktion/action-smiley-034.gif

SC I goofed up on the guesstimates of the plant sizes. The blooming plant is just shy of 10" and the other is almost 14".

The parents of the larger plant are Fernbrook X Superba.

I can hardly wait for the flower to fully open, and to get a good pic of the erruption. The outer 2/3 of the petals are almost solid cherry red with warts so dense its almost black.

Terp. you made me nervous about the roots, so I checked last night and theyre good.
