Well, as some of you know, I'm a beginner with orchids & I'm having a hard time reining in my enthusiasm. I've just ordered a special from Oak Hill, 3 crosses of Sorcerers Apprentice (x longifolium, x richterii, x pearcii 'Birchwood')-all small, can I hope to grow them to blooming size? Right now, I have my phrags in a s/w/n sunroom (I've only had a couple for a little while)-I'm optimistic right now, because it's sunny, & all my plants look happy....any hints would be welcomed...Linmda

You should do yourself a big favor and purchase at least one blooming size or in spike plant to enjoy while you grow these others on to BS. just a thought. Ray

Although Sorcerer's Apprentice x longifolium will grow like a weed, and you'd best be sure you've got a lot of room! That will be one big monster soon....

-Well, I just purchased 2 BS plants from Al's last week- phrag. (schlimii 'Pink Ice'x wallisi 'Tower Grove') & phrag Lynn Evans-Goldner (schlimii 'Isolde' x Barbara Leann)-they are a bit bigger, so I'm ready to get some smaller plants, to see if I can grow them to a larger size( I will be watching S.A x longifolium, thanks for the warning)....I'm very patient....(& not at all confident in my abilities to nurture smaller plants), but I'm willing to try...I just want to try everything out....(hoping I won't kill anything...Thistle)

Actually, most phrags (definitely not all) will grow very quickly and bloom...faster than most paphs. In fact, a Jason Fischer I got as a 2" seedling less than 2 years ago is in spike now, ready to open soon. Take care, Eric

these phrags arrived today & they are some big plants! I see that I'll have to repot right away, they're very topheavy...

I've repotted all these plants into larger containers-they were in 2.5" pots w/ bark mix & I moved them into 5" round deli containers, adapted to s/h (holes drilled 1" from bottom), w/ lava rock & charcoal-they're in my sunroom getting s/western exposure-they're big, healthy looking plants-I hope I can keep them this way!...
