Porroglossum dalstroemii is blooming in the dungeon today. Well, actually the orchidarium this time. The plant is named for the orchid ilustrator and collector Stig Dalstrom.

Didn't find this in any of the literature I read but this flower has a lip that opens and closes like a Venus Fly Trap or similar.
Here's a side by side comparison with the lip open and closed. Flower is about 1/4" wide by 3/8" high.

The flower looks like something from a sci fi movie. It looks like it has a pouch like lip also. Very interesting!

This one is not carniverous. The lip function is to aid in pollination. Common with all Porroglossoms.

Oh, I know, but you'd mentioned it was a similar mechanisim in your post, and it got me thinking I should really get some more for summertime.
