So, I went to my OS meeting today, and there was a lovely specimen sized Phrag. Mountain Maid on the show table. Several branching spikes. Well, you know of course what I had to do! Stuck my nose right in there and YES, fragrance is there, just like mine (which I still have btw, we had no raffle table, so I ended up not bringing it at the last minute.)
I asked about how there could be fragrance in a hybrid without it in either species parent and was told basically - genetics - that somehow the breeding of the two brought out certain fragrance pathways that were embedded somewhere in the genes of the parents.
I feel better, having smelled someone else's and found it is the same as mine! Oh, and they are from different vendors and are made with different crosses, also. This one had much nicer ruffling of the petals than mine, IMO. It was lovely!
