View Full Version : Bet you've never seen this species before...
Jon in SW Ohio December 1st, 2005, 05:22 PM Ok so it's just another besseae...my 'Haven' x 'Smokin' decided to open today, hopefully it gets bigger as it opens and stays as round.
The flower is tiny (just over an inch) compared to my other 4n one...but darker red and rounder, hopefully it gets bigger the next time it blooms since the plant is still small.

Nynaeve December 1st, 2005, 05:28 PM OMG, that is so pretty! I love the curvature of the petals! And I have been looking at what seems like hundreds of bessae pics lately....
Seriously, I love the shape of this one and you may have just inspired me to get one.... :poke: Where did you get yours??? :poke: :poke:
Dwayne Dibbley December 1st, 2005, 05:39 PM Oh yes indeedy !
Shape & colour are exceptional.
Paphgirl December 1st, 2005, 05:41 PM Hmm...I'm feeling a bit insecure all the sudden.....:?
*Just* another besseae?
I too LOVE the shape of your's, Jon! Very nice b-day besseae!! :joy:
Thanks for posting!
Jon in SW Ohio December 1st, 2005, 05:53 PM I meant to put a "poke" emote after *just*...but forgot and you posted too quick to edit it in.
This one came from Orchid Inn, and had the widest leaves of the batch he brought to the Mid America.

Paphraguy December 1st, 2005, 06:33 PM Beautiful! Nice shape but I'm a little surprised at the size of the flower at only over an inch? Both my red and yellow besseae flowers measured a little over 3 inches!
davesans December 1st, 2005, 07:46 PM Lovely flower
Jon in SW Ohio December 1st, 2005, 08:22 PM Size has been a bit disappointing, it's still cupped from opening but I don't see it getting over 2 1/2 inches wide! My other from H.P Norton is over 4 inches wide, but not as round...though the plant is quite a bit bigger. I'll give this one another year to grow and bloom and see what it does before I decide whether or not to sib with it.

Paphgirl December 1st, 2005, 08:29 PM All of mine from this new breeding line have been about 2.5" spread.
But your form is the nicest, Jon!
Paphraguy December 1st, 2005, 08:56 PM Jon, hopefully the flowers increase in size the next flowering season. The first flowers on both my red and yellow were about 2+ inches and the flowers got bigger the last flowering session, so hopefully they are even bigger the next time. :D
nyorchids December 1st, 2005, 09:33 PM very nice indeed!

bench72 December 2nd, 2005, 04:39 AM That is so NICE! It's definitely the wide petals that gives it that extra bessae ooomph!
