Looks like a great plant! I read the other day that they take 10 years to bloom from flask so it could take a while before it does but I am sure it will be worth the wait. I would love to grow these but unfortunately just can't provide the conditions.

Try putting some bottom heat under there to really ramp up the growth rate.
About 75 degrees F should do it.

I've had one of these for two years, It's not a small plant but it has taken that long to adapt to it's new conditions by starting to throw out new growth , Yours looks like a very nice plant so patience is the key word. Good luck with it;

http://i929.photobucket.com/albums/ad135/paphman910/IMG_3273.jpg

It is growing under a 400 Metal Halide lights. The light is about 4 feet above the plant's leaves. New leaf growth seems faster as temperature increases.

it's really picking up speed...immaculate plant too.

you're right about temperature...we keep our temps very cool in the winter, most of my other multifloral species like roth keep growing, but my stonei and sanderianum all slow down to a crawl...

it is weird how the latest generation roths grow so quickly, but line bred stonei are still slooooooooooooow......stonei are still worth the wait though.

problem i found is, when u bloom one, it will be 5 years before it blooms again!

I think the combination of factors affect growth: Temperature and Light intensity.

My wife at home keeps the balcony window closed and the temperature hits to mid 80 with the 400 Watt Metal halide on for 12 hours. I notice that the plant seem to get wider under the HID. This plant was grown under T5 and it was slow so I decided to use HID...what an improvement.

I bet your Paph rothschildianum grown under HID grows can easily become multigrowth and flower every year!

I see another new leaf coming when I look down the crown! Still very slow growing! I think this year it will have put out three new leaves! Sam tells me that it will take another two years to reach maturity and put out a new growth.

It measures about 46 cm in leafspan. I got it in mid to late 2008 at about 22 cm leafspan.

Fine looking youth, that plant! I think two leaves in a year isn't out of the ordinary for multis. I waited for ANY growth on my Michael Koopowitz and only now is it really taking off, after about a year and a half and a recent repotting. I'd love to have a good stonei, but I think I'll have to save up and buy a really spectacular one in bloom sometime. I'd be pretty upset to have waited years for a mediocre flower!

It is putting out a 3rd leaf this year and hopefully by the end of the year it will have put out 4th leaf.

I am growing a bunch of Paph delenatii vinicolor seedlings and hope they will flower when stonei decides to flower in two years from now! I won't be disappointed with an crappy flowering stonei!

Sorry to keep commenting but I love stonei. Going back to the original page, it's remarkable you got so much growth in so short a time. You keep them warm all year? Unfortunately our house conditions where I grow are fairly cool year-round--70s in the summer and low 60s in the winter. i still get good growth on my multifloral species but bet i could do better if i could grow warmer.

Depending on how the flower looks when it blooms, that would be a great breeder for vigor. I have a very vigorous stonei that I selfed this spring and it has 3 seedpods.

Hello Justin:
No need to apologize for the comments because you give very good information and you are a seasoned grower!

I keep it warm year round not going below 70 F at night. At this time of year (I mean now) Paph stonei seem to have a growth spurt for some reason and it is putting out new roots as well. I have grown this plant for almost two years and it has grown quite big.

What are you going to do with the seedpots on your stonei?

Yeah I wish I could grow a few degrees higher on average...maybe this winter we'll try to keep the house warmer. But one benefit of cool growing is you get a lot of spikes every year.

What are you going to do with the seedpots on your stonei?

I'm going to send them out for flasking when they are ready in another few months. I am just hoping I can get some germination.

I do not have a straight Paph. stonei. What I have is Paph. Mount Toro.
I got a mature big division about 12 years ago. What I noticed, it does not like the Southern Californian winter. It looked kind of sick for a year when I grew the plant outside. When I moved to Chicago, my friend took care of the plant in his cattleya greenhouse. It looks better, but for 5 years that plant was not repotted. Even though, the plant looks healthy, the plant did not grow fast, very slow. Three years ago, I brought the plant to Chicago. I repotted, fortunately, I repotted, because the plant started losing its root due to bad growing mix. Now, after three years, I could see the plant grow very well, and much faster. This year, it produced two inflorescenses with 9 flowers. I usually water only once a week, due to my busy schedule, and I have never lost any paphs. Therefore, I think, for my growing condition, once a week is a safe watering frequency.

I think multifloral paphs are slow grower.
