Oh, and check out the new root - which makes me happy, since I've only had the plant for a bit more than a month now.

Wow, well that's exciting :-) Fingers crossed - I feel this incredible sense of having to live up to Heather's expectations for my besseae :-)

You got it!

Just kidding John, you know all these plants are from the same batches. You made me go check the other one's I got when you got yours. Nothing yet (they were all a bit stressed though, so we'll see!)

Well, this guy has a new root even, so I suspect/hope yours will get into the swing of things shortly as well. I did have a bit of rot or whatever at the base of the outermost leaf, and just removed it. All else seems well. How long do they take to bloom?

Well, I have one that I noticed in sheath like your's on 10/14/05, the bud is forming, I'd say another week or two before it is fully open.

Good for you, John! Very exciting, isn't it? I think my red and yellow bessies are also beginning to spike. :D

The yellows are quite pretty - and they're different, which I like. No offense to Heather, but I kind of feel like so many of the besseaes look alike. :-) I remember someone writing in another forum about a year ago that there were only 4 phrags they'd ever want, all the rest are too similar to each other.

Maybe....I think a lot of what I like about besseae in particular is just how variable it can be! They are all so different! I've had, what, four or five besseae in bloom the last few weeks and they are all very different from each other. My latest has a much more orange color, with some break, but great form. I'm just into them I guess.
Then there's the variability of St. Ouen and Hanne Popow made w/ regular vs. flava besseae....so much variation amongst the crosses! I saw a very nice Icho Tower today and I really loved it and had to go searching around for other variations... I guess that's what I like about the besseae hybrids. I remember when last November I saw my first Hanne Popow, I about keeled over! When I recovered, well, I just HAD to have one, or two, and then a few St. Ouen....We all have our own loves....But that's just me. :)

Billie - I sure wish our borders were more open and flexible in these instances - I'd trade you for one of your legals in a second. :? Frustrating....
