A friend of mine asked me if I would take a few of his *stalled* orchids off his hands. One of them is a good sized Phrag Sorcerer's Apprentice. When I unpotted it, the roots were all rotted. It does have 2 new growths coming out, and a couple of nubs of new roots starting to poke out. But the leaves are starting to take on that wrinkled appearance, suggesting lack of water. Probably because the roots were dead. I trimmed off all the dead roots and I have it soaking in a rooting solution of KLN. Any tips on what else I can do to save it? I've brought back other orchids with no roots, but never a phrag.

I would imagine if you put it on some moist sphag and cover it to maintain humidity it should grow roots again, especially if it has some eager nubbins.
I however, have a P. caudatum that has just completed its second year on sphag while remaining completely rootless. New growths have started but not gone far. Had I not paid (wasted) $35 for the damned thing I would have chucked it long ago.
Which reminds me, I need to go start another, similar thread.

Yes, keep the humidity up and it should grow new roots.

Geez! You have the patience of a saint! And you must have a lot of room if you can hang onto that for 2 years! I just don't have that type of patience....

pot it up with some rooting hormone on the bottom end, stake it in some manner to keep it up right
put a plastic bag over the plant and keep it moist but not wet
it should do fine
