View Full Version : Vote:the pollen to put on Paph Little by Little
paphreek November 15th, 2005, 06:02 PM Here's the first poll to follow up our discussion of breeding with Paph Little by Little. Disclaimers: 1. While the poll results may help me decide the cross, I retain rights to make the final decision. Also, any crosses made are subject to the willingness of participants to share pollen. Suggestions not included in this poll may be used in the follow up poll involving the use of the Little by Little pollen.
Please make comments on why you feel certain pollen donators would or would not be good candidates.

Thanks, Heather :embarass:
Paphgirl November 15th, 2005, 06:32 PM I voted for the 'Snow Glory' because of the form. My second choice would have been the charlesworthii x barbigerum - regards to what Stephan said. I think both could be super interesting!
Third choice bellatalum. :)
Great thread/poll, Ross!!
TADD November 15th, 2005, 07:40 PM I say niveum Ross, in all the idea of keeping the plant as small as possible and enlarging the stem! Can't wait for the outcome! I want a seedling regardless :)
thistle November 15th, 2005, 08:28 PM I like most of the choices (although I voted for a favorite)! please let us know when the seedlings are available, I think alot of these could produce an interesting plant...
dustyatticstuff November 15th, 2005, 09:31 PM It was Snow Glory for me as well, Ross. Second choices were Exul x Tyke and/or Bell Ringer Brocade.
Still, if Little by Little could retain its colors and markings as the pod parent, and could "fatten up" into a perfect circle by Snow Glory, you have the potential for getting an outstanding cross.
Thanks for posting this poll. Whatever you decide, it was fun!
Bob in Albany, N.Y. November 16th, 2005, 09:43 AM I think you all know which one I voted for. It was a hard decision. Niveum is by far my second choice. Actually, it was almost my first choice.
tiosuper November 16th, 2005, 02:58 PM I would have voted for bellatulum hadnt it been for the fact that you placed stem before shape. That is the reason I voted for niveum.
I like the Brachys also for warmth tolerance(sp)

The stem on Little bt Little, while upright is somewhat short (7 cm.)
paphreek November 18th, 2005, 12:31 AM Just thought I'd give this poll and the other a bump. Votes can be cast through Sunday afternoon. Even if you don't have a comment, please vote!
Thanks
paphreek November 21st, 2005, 12:16 PM Thanks to all those who contributed with comments and votes. I've begun discussions with Bob concerning his Snow Glory.
Paphraguy November 21st, 2005, 12:21 PM Good luck, Ross! :D I don't even remember which one voted for.
dustyatticstuff November 21st, 2005, 07:59 PM Sounds great! Hope you keep us posted as the project progresses!!!
dwclapp February 17th, 2006, 06:45 AM Hey Ross, any update on these crosses? Did pods set and are they growing as expected?

I will post a response when I get back from work, this evening. It's -15 F. Brrrrrrrr!
paphreek February 17th, 2006, 05:56 PM Here's an update on the Little by Little crosses:
1. I decided to not have the Little by Little carry a pod this blooming, so that it can grow and further acclimate to its new environment.
2. (barbigerum x charlesworthii) x Little by Little: Pod is looking plump and green
3. (exul x Tyke) x Little by Little: Pod is again looking plump and green.
4. The balance of the pollen was given to another hybridizer who is considering options.
I will post again when there are any changes. :)
