View Full Version : seaweed as fertilizer dantheman November 10th, 2005, 09:07 AM Has anyone seen a thread on this? I think I saw one but I'm not sure. Stephan November 10th, 2005, 05:24 PM Hey Dan Haven't seen a thread here but there's a product sold locally called "Black Magic" (I think) which is said to be seaweed. I tend to use another product by the same company - Name's at home, sorry, which is a slow release fertiliser and quite good. Cheers Stephan RickL November 10th, 2005, 07:33 PM I've also heard it was a significant component of Superthrive, but its not listed on the bottle. Paphgirl November 10th, 2005, 07:49 PM I used the Alaskan product for a couple months last summer, but the neighborhood cats all would come by and eat my catnip, and lick all the nutrients out of the plants. And boy, did those plants stink! Hence the cats! So, I guess I'll stink with MSU. :D Nynaeve November 10th, 2005, 10:03 PM So, I guess I'll stink with MSU. :D  Stephan November 11th, 2005, 01:52 AM I was wrong. It's called "Black Beauty Seaweed Plant Food" - No web presence that I could find sorry. I get a product that's made over there called Magamp. Cheers Stephan Ed M November 13th, 2005, 11:49 PM A seaweed product I've been using is Maxicrop. Its actually Nowegian Kelp. I don't know about using it strictly as a fertilizer, it may not have all the components, but it does have some incredible amino acids for increasing growth. I started using it earlier this summer and noticed increased number of new growths and lots of new roots. I buy it at our local hydroponics store for $18.00 per gallon. Looks like squid ink. bench72 November 14th, 2005, 04:12 AM I use a product called Seasol which is a seaweed extract... it's not really an all round fertilizer but is sold as a "conditioner". It does tend to give roots a boost but I think there isn't much nitrogen in it... so not sure what it is that does the trick... cheers tim dartfrog February 1st, 2006, 12:57 AM Don't believe the claim of the Alaskan stuff being deodorized. It still stinks of the ocean and that's why I use the one I have very sparingly. If that stuff is deodorized, I don't want the odorized stuff for sure. Meesh February 2nd, 2006, 06:42 PM I use the Alaska Midnite Sun every other fertilizing(Dyna-gro Foliage Pro is the other). I don't seem to notice the smell as much as the regular Alaska Fish. Also, the Midnite contains humic acid which I love to use. |
