Um, can I steal your idea?
More details please? Seriously - I can't hang mine from the ceiling....so I need an alternative.
This could work for me as well. I can just see physicist SO having a BALL putting this together for me. Or at least laughing as I put it together....K'nex huh? Yeah, need more info please....

(is this at school? just curiouse!)
Thanks Stephen! :D

k'nex are strong enough and won't melt? Awesome! How long have you had the light up like that for? Any stress or flexing on the k'nex? Great use of a toy. Hey H, I have a bucket of Lincoln Logs You can use! :poke:

Great idea, wonder what I could do with Lego...

The light actually doesn't throw out nearly as much heat as I thought it would (it's a 400W HPS w/ hortilux bulb) so there's no real risk of melting.

Luckily, I used to be obsessed with k'nex, so I had them sitting around waiting. for a use. The contraption as it is now is pretty stable, but would be even more so if I could have made the top sections out of blue/yellow instead of the orange/red/yellow. Unfortunately, I have other k'nex devices elsewhere and I ran out...

I've got a ton of legos but nowhere near enough for something that size... Tinker toys(or their modern equivalent) are the way to go!

The stand's at home, it's just too much to move around and have at school...

H, If I were to build a stand from scratch, I would probably use pvc pipe to do so. It should be relatively cheap and easy to build. How wide is your reflecter and how high from the table were you thinking of hanging of it? Also, will it be fixed or on a light mover? I could probably give you a rough sketch of what you'll need and how to do it...

Question!

I know you need to keep buds out of direct sun, but what about HID setups? Do they hurt buds?

All my plants in bud suffer no harmful effects sitting directly under my HPS light.

Wow, this is so cool! I don't know how I missed this before...

Unfortunately, I have other k'nex devices elsewhere and I ran out...

So, what other devices do you have lying around?? :-dance:

looks like a nice set-up. what area does your 400w cover? its hard to tell from the pics, how high is the light from the table you use?

I always wonder, with indoor growing, is it crucial to have fresh air supply? I can see we move air using fan, but in an indoor environment, the air will not be fresh. Will this affect the plant's growth?

Hrm I seem to have missed all these replies....

I will snap some pics of the whole setup and my k'nex blinds later in the week (after finals) and post 'em.
