I just received one of these as a gift. Does anyone know how to grow these? :?:

Hi Teresa,

I don't grow this plant but I found this info:

Dendrobium uniflorum
Beautiful canes of green & white flowers. These come from the Philippines and like intermediate temperatures and moderate to bright light. Will bloom several times throughout the year.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Peter! I mainly am wondering about watering and potting medium. Right now it is in a clay pot with CHC. I have never used CHC for a den species and I am afraid it might hold too much water. I am wondering if it would be happier mounted. I don't know if it needs a true dormant stage like den nobiles or not. I already rotted off the new growth on my one den nobile by over watering GRRRRRR! :poke:

Teresa,

I don't know much about Dends but I think most are epiphytes, so it will be OK mounted but then you would have to provide lots of humidity.

Teresa,
My first orchid was a Home Depot dendrobium that came in a clay pot sandwiched between 3 large slices of coconut husk. I don't think the CHC will stay too wet at all. I've also got 2 dens in S/H right now that are perfectly happy.

Here is the info.

Light 1500-2500 fc
Intermediate with night time drop of 12-18 degrees
humidity high
moist but not soggy all year
fertilize weakly, weekly or biweekly
no rest
May be mounted on tree-fern or cork if your humidity is high enough and you can water daily during the summer. If potted use any open, fast draining medium. Repotting is best done in the spring. They usually bloom in the summer to early fall.

Hope this helps

Thanks Ron. I have done all of that but it just refuses to bloom. Maybe, it is not time yet for it to bloom but thanks for the help! I'll keep you posted.
