This is by far the best Dick Clements I have ever seen. It came to this country as an unbloomed seedling from the Eric Young Foundation. It was one of their tetraploid conversions. I had purchased a colchicine treated compot from another source hoping to get something like this. They flowered out ok but nowhere near the size or shape of 'Katherine'. So I got rid of most of them and got a piece of this one. Certainly worth every penny! A full 13 cm natural spread...awesome!

Interesting. It seems like you have a lot of plants that you have more than one clone of. I wish I had the space for that. I seem to have a serious problem in that I am a total grex whore, and just really want the best out there. I'm such a snob!

Heather,
Many years ago when I was a college student and novice grower, I took a weekend job taking care of a professor's mixed orchid collection that filled 3 greenhouses. In my many discussions with him over 3 years I came away with lots of knowledge and one rule to grow by...'It takes as much time and effort to take care of a good plant as it does to take care of a cull.' It took quite a few years to be able to acquire different clones of superior plants but it has been worth it. The past few years I have been purchasing flasks and compots for the pleasure of growing up multiple clones of different crosses and keeping the best ones. The problem is I am supposed to get rid of the ones that are not the best. To this I admit failure. Also understand that over the years I have made far too much expensive compost but a good friend once told me,'hobbies have no cost'.

An exceptional NS of 13cm !!! That is hugh for a Mem Dick Clements .. although the PETW can be even better IMHO ... but it really worth each penny you paid of it , definitely !
