I can't believe he is enabling me, but my husband surprised me with a $50 gift certificate to Oak Hill Gardens! :whoo: He sneaked it into my purse when I was off to work, and was I ever surprised! :jawdrop: So my fellow enablers, help me spend my money here... I feel a new paph or phrag should be making its way to my house this week!

Oak Hills is one of my favorite vendors and I have bought many many beautiful and healthy plants from them. For $50, you can get a bunch of nice and different seedlings. I suggest go for the multifloral slippers but that is my own preference. Have fun shopping! Let us know what you're getting.

I'm going to stick with hybrids because Oak Hill has a much better selection of those. I am thinking I might treat myself to at least one blooming size since I already have quie a collection of seedlings (although I do love the little guys  Maybe I will get one paph and one phrag. I have been browsing and I like the Paph. Capablanca, Paph Barbi Doll, Paph Magic Lantern, Paph Shireen, Paph Wossner Kolosuk....and I haven't even made it to the phrags yet!!!!

Oak Hill is where I "busted the budget" on the OSM Chicago trip. They have a bunch of newly listed slippers on their website.
If you want to try a Brachy, the Concon Bells looked nice and are blooming sized.

The Magic Lanterns looked nice and are close to blooming size. I would have bought one, but I have three mature ones already. Here's a pic of one of them.

If you want to be patient, they have large seedlings of Norito Hasegawa (malipoense x armeniacum). These produce one of the most dramatic displays, with large, greenish yellow flowers on very tall stems. One of my favorite hybrids.

Those are just a few ideas, enjoy the fun of picking out new plants! If you have a question on a particular plant, let me know and I will give you info on size, etc. if I remember seeing it. Or just call and talk to Greg, Liese or Hermann. They are great people to work with!

The Barbi Dolls are really cute and tiny. Some were showing buds with only a four inch leaf span. Hopefully there are still some in bud. I must confess that I bought a few.

$10 henryanums, but not blooming size... shame...

Teresa, since you have that sunny spot that garnered you the nickname "The Heater", what about a small vanda type? I noticed they have Vandafinetia Blaupunkt or Darwinara Blue Charm 'Blue Star' HCC/AOS, both are blooming size and pretty cheap.

I agree with Ross about the Concon Bells, and that is a good price on Magic Lanterns too...
primulinum var purpurescens?

Have fun and let us know what you decide :D

LOL, yeah there is a reason why I grow all my slippers inside! I actually managed to sunburn 2 leaves on my biggest vanda a couple of weeks ago. This time of year the sun shifts and if I don't remember to move them back, they get toasted in the late afternoon. I have several vanda types, but I don't have a darwinia yet...I heard they smell yummy!
