Yes, could this be the infamous "schlimii" 'Birchwood'
which is actually Cardinale? Still, a lovely flower in any case!

Or perhaps Sedenii. But definitely not schlimii. Unfortunately, a lot of 'schlimii' hybrids were made with these. How they ever got through the judges (Birchwood and 'Wilcox' both have AOS quality awards) is unknown. But those teams should have been demoted back to student status.

Yep, It looks a little light in color to be Cardinale, but who knows. Still lovely!

Nice photo but I agree with the others that it is a schlimii hybrid, most probably a Sedenii because of the narrow petals and Cardinale has broader petals. I'll post pics of Cardinale and schlimii when they are ready.

After looking at photos on the web, I agree, it is a cross. Must have had the wrong tag...

Gideon, I have noticed a lot of vendors and growers still list their plants as schlimii 'Birchwood, or 'Wilcox',, even knowing that it isn't the species. I think I've just come to realize that rather than changing the tags, people just know by the epithet if it is or is not the real schlimii. Kind of interesting.

It happens all the time, not only with schlimii but also with caudatum and wallisii. If you look around online, you will see many "caudatums" listed when their photos clearly show they are hybrids like Grandes and Paul Eugenes. I would have to say "schlimii" Birchwood is the most common one and there are many growers out there who think they have the real deal.
