View Full Version : Hawaiian Orchid Nurseries - Flasks???
Bolero October 24th, 2009, 10:42 PM Hey guys, we have booked and paid for a 2 week break in Hawaii on the islands of Oahu and Maui. I am considering going to an orchid nursery or two if I get the chance and there seem to be quite a few.
Without me having to write to them all, can any of you recommend nurseries in Hawaii that sell either Cattleya or Paph flasks? Also are they easy to get to from Waikiki beach and Lahaina?
Thanks in advance, I won't be going until next year but your responses will give me a place to start with.

Hi Darren,
I actually live on Oahu and I don't recall very many, if any, that sell flasks...most definitely paphs. I'm not so sure about catts though. I can ask around and let you know...our club meeting is coming up on Monday. Is there anything in particular you're looking for? A lot of the nurseries don't open their doors to the public. One that I know does invite the public in is Kawamoto Orchids, which is not a far drive from Waikiki. As for Maui, there are a number of nurseries there, but again, I don't recall very many of them selling flasks. I visited Hai'ku Maui Orchids a couple of months ago and definitely no flasks for sale.
Let me know what you're looking for and I'll ask around...

Paph or Slc type flasks, I need plants that grow at the lower end of temps but also tolerate warmth. It doesn't hurt to ask, if they don't sell flasks I will still go along and have a look if they are open to the public. Thanks for asking anyway.

Justin October 25th, 2009, 01:52 PM I think Sam Tsui ships to australia? Orchid Inn always has extensive flask offerings...

Yeah I've bought from him before when he came here, is he in Hawaii? I will have to check that. If he's not in Hawaii I would need an import permit to get plants sent from him.

cattmad March 29th, 2010, 12:17 AM Hi Bolero, I know this post is old, but if you haven't already gone, here what I found on my trips to hawaii. None of the nurseries want to sell flasks. H&R is about 3/4 hour drive from waikiki is worth going to just for the look. You'll see some great catt species & hybrids. Orchid centre is about an hour drive the other way is also worth a look, last time I was there he had a lot of taiwanese stuff, but that could have changed, havent been there in a few years now.
