Hrm, I repotting a violacea.
I decided to put it in S/H but I've never put a Phal. in it before, and it is a Phal that has been hanging in a basket. It has a lot of rather horizontal roots. If I stuff them all in the pot, the plant is going to be more upright. If I leave some of them (that were aerial in the last situation) out of the Prime Agra, it will look more like it did before. I don't know what it wants though.
Can someone help me? Thanks!!

It has been my experience that a whole new set off roots need to develope for the S/H culture. I only move plants at time of active root developement. I have had difficulty with violacea in reg culture and have never tried it s/h. I have rotted 2 of them. My present one is in a basket that is hung on it's side. I know I didn't directly answer your question but what I intended to say is all roots in the pot may die. Aerial roots deffinately will die in the pot!! Hope this helps :)

In general, that is what I've been doing as well - moving plants w/ good new root growth. This one has a good bit of new root growth going on, so I thought it might be a good candidate.
Oh also, I'm doing it w/ plants that I have more than one of, in general. :)

If the roots are aerial don't put them in the medium. They will rot if they are put in it. Try your best to keep them out, and new roots will grow if they want to down into the s/h.

Ok, thanks guys, that was most helpful. Plant's looking good now. I'd still like to try and hang it but may be a bit of a challenge. Looks happier than before, if you ask me. I was drying it out way too much. Been meaning to repot it for weeks!
