Here's my favorite...this Paph. concolor. But not all concolors have leaves like this unfortunately. This plant came from RJ Rands moons ago as P. concolor v. regneri. I can find no info on this variety, but it is probably a variety due to the flowers and not the leaves. The inflorescense usually has three or four smaller, darker-yellow flowers with very tiny spots compared to the everyday concolor...but I grow it mostly for its foliage. The leaves have a whiter background in person than I could capture with my camera, so the last photo is a comparison with sanderianum to show the contrast this plant has with my plain leaved Paphs. Enjoy, and please share your favorites.

Excellent post! Those mottled leaves are really very pretty in your pics, beautiful pattern. My favorites are still the larger multifloral strapped leaves, I just love them! Some of my favorite mottled Paph leaves are those of micranthum, malipoense and hainanense.

Jon, I've never seen concolor foliage, but that is beautiful! It looks like little shrubs or trees, patterned all over the leaves.

This is a fun post! I really enjoy seeing foliage, and seeing other people's foliage, to give me clues on how mine is doing. It is very rare to see a lot of plant photographs at other forums, so this is wonderful!

I had to really think about this. I am not a huge fan of the mottled leaved plants. I think my least favorite is actually my malipoense. It is a little unruly. Not only does it depend on the look of the foliage, but the growth pattern for me. I love my PEOY, because it has an elegant sweep to it. I also love my tigrinum as the fans arch beautifully. However, below are my two favorites, I think (at least today.)

This is my little sanderianum. I like the flat wavy petals (that didn't come across well in the photo I'm afraid,) and their light yellow rim and the slightly tesselated leaf pattern.

My other favorite is my roebellinii 'Greenlace'. This plant has the juiciest yummiest leaves! They remind me a little of a jade plant. Also, it has a ton of growth and grows very fast; I just like the look of the plant a lot. I had three new starts soon after I got it. One of the leaves looks like it has a little bite out of it. It lost the tip of the leaf soon after it emerged. It and all the others are growing fine, but I've often wondered why that would occur.

Jon, do you have a pic of a regular concolor leaves? I'm just curious to know what they look like. Your concolor leaf pattern is just out of this world, just STUNNING!

Here's a pic of the usual one from the GCOS show last weekend. The leaves are much darker and have a duller contrast.

Thanks! I definitely like your unusual one. Love that pattern!

The var. regneri is like the negative of the nominal form. Pretty cool. I also like the foliage on my venustums, and wardii. If you look at them closely with fairly bright light , they have layered look that reminds me of those cheap holograhic pictures you get out of the ceral boxes.

My favorite foliage is on delenatii f. dunkel. I'll post it later.

I've never really thought much about the leaves of orchids. I have always just liked looking at healthy, vibrant leaves, but since I saw your pic Jon, I will have to start looking more closely.

Ditto Jon! Great post! I've got many different concolors and have always enjoyed the leaves, but now you've got me looking at them more closely. What a difference they do have from plant to plant. Thanks for increasing my enjoyment of concolor! :D

Your concolor’s leaves are just incredible—nothing like mine. (Very happy with its flowers, though!) Well, the shape is, but there is much less contrast in the mottling and not nearly as cool a pattern. You have a real treasure.

Among my own plants, Lynleigh Koopowitz, Harold Koopowitz and delenatii have the finest leaves, though there are many that are close. I love all the mottled-leafed paphs. It looks like vietnamense is going to trump them all, though.

I think I like my delanatii alba's leaves the best. There's something very distinct about them with the purple gone...

Paph. Memoria Clifford Walters (philippinense var. roebelinii 'War Eagle' x Paph. Macabre 'Gerry', AM/AOS) All the seedlings from this flask have had interesting and unique patterns and colors on the leaves.
