Hi everyone,

Over the years that I've been collecting information on Phragmipediums I've encountered the name of a (possible) natural hybrid a couple of times. And that's about it. Except for some collecting information in the MBG W3Tropicos database I've been unable to find any further information about this entity. I'm talking about the following:

> In MBG W3Tropicos:
Phrag. x piedadiae Dodson
According to the Collection Information it was collected in Ecuador, Los Rios, near the Rio Palenque Science Center at an elevation of 220 m by Dodson on 25-Jun-1991.

> In an article in the magazine of the Dutch Orchid Society (N.O.V.) I found the name Phrag. x piedadae Dodson

> In Lucile M. McCook's "An Annotated Checklist of the Genus Phragmipedium" I found:
Phrag. piedadii Dodson
This is possibly a hybrid from Ecuador between P. pearcei x P. longifolium.

That's all the information I have. So I was wondering if someone among you has any further information on this entity. Any information or reference to information is great appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

All the best,

RZu.

Dear Rob,
some years ago I asked Mr. Dodson for this hybrid. He told me that this plant came in flower in his garden, where he cultivated also Phrag. longifolium and Phrag. pearcei.
It was not found in the nature, it was the product of pollination in a garden. So it was not described as a natural hybrid but sometimes Dodson used the name in lectures but never in articles or books. I get a picture from him and it was the same like the artificial hybrid.
The official name of this hybrid is Phrag. Green Hornet.

Best greetings

Olaf
