Hello Heather are you planning on entering any plants in the upcomming Mass. Show?I should have a few plants entered. It's getting close.I have to make up my mind and get them pregetegisted. saves time when you get there.I wish they would post a vendors list although I haven't checked thier site in a few days they may have now.I should be there on set up day but I don't think I will be able to get back there during the show.Do you go to the preview party? Ray

Hi Ray!
Still no vendor listing - I think last year I had to email them for it.
I actually arranged to take Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off, so I can go anytime. I'm not sure about the Preview Party because it is pricey for non-members.
I don't *think* I am entering any plants. I don't have much blooming right now, the only thing that would be a contender is the Lebaudyanum and I think that I may just wait to enter into a show until the NHOS show, which I will work and help out with, and so will be around and able to keep an eye on things more than I would for the MOS show. Hopefully I'll have something blooming in February!

I wish that MOS still had their show at Tower Hill, then I'd definitely enter. Waltham is much less convenient for me though (why I am not a MOS member!)

Is anyone else going to this?

Hi Heather I too would like it better at tower Hill. I talked to some vendors and they claim they sell more plants at Waltham and a different crowd of people. It's way out of the way for me. I am setting up but the part I don't like is not knowing where my plants will end up Sunday night. We never get anyone to commit to braking down the show but people always show up just don't know who will take plants home. Not a good way to go about things but it's the best we can do for now.Seems like some Societies don't want to partisipate anymore because the same people always do all the work. There was a grower in the Amherst Society who quit and I used to look forward to his plants at the end of the show he would sell certain plants pretty cheap just had to ask.The Preview party is a little high for non members we usually charge $25.00 and have a meal. This year as with last we are going to the Post Office Cafe across the Street from the show . It went very well last year all who went had a ball.

Heather, I'd like to go, as it is the closest event around for me. I forget when it is. If I recall correctly it is Sept 30'th to Oct 2'nd, is that right?? I also have to figure out where Waltham, MA is. I think my daughter might be interested in going with me. Yes, I saw something about a party and/or a dinner, but it looked rather pricey to me.

hey, that's my society you're talking about!
i'll try to get in touch with the pres (i'm v.p.) and get a vendors list
the society meets in waltham but the show is in wellesley at elm bank
it is a little pricey, but it's the same price for members and nonmembers, i think...just checked, yeh, it's pricey for non members
it's only twenty bucks to join the m.o.s., though
what i don't like is that mass hort decided gate fees and i think $6 for members and $8 for non members is pricey for a show

The prices are up since last year also - it was $5 for non members I think to get into the show, and no gate fee last year.

Right, Wellesly, Waltham, same diff.

Heck, I'll COOK dinner for free for y'all on Friday night if you want to come stay for the weekend. I'm maybe 45 min. from Wellesley on a good day. I can't promise formal wear worthy, but I make a mean batch of fajitas, and I am off the whole weekend, so come one, come all! Why not!?

Susan, yes, show dates formally are Oct 1 and 2. The invite's open - anyone - if you don't mind sleeping on the floor, but I have a queen futon up for grabs.

Susan - so are you definitely going? What day? Do you need accomodations? Let me know so I can plan accordingly, okay? Wow, you're first show!
Right now I'm planning on going Saturday, but I'm flexible.

Not showing any plants. Darned PCC won't be ready quite on time.

Hi Heather, I hope to get there on Saturday morning, hopefully when it opens. Would that be 9 AM? Or is that a good idea? I was thinking that if I got there when it opened, that I could get to possibly buy some nice plants?

I think I will be going alone, as it will be such a hassle to get Nina to wake up at that hour. I love your generous offer to stay over, but I'd better get home the same day. It will be great seeing you there, and other forum members as well, I hope.

PS: What is a PCC?

Hola - PCC=Penn's Creek Cascade - the only thing I thought might be worth it, but no. Too early.

Let's see - opens at 10:00 both days and I was planning the same. I generally try to get there close to opening and (bad girl) shop first, look at show after. Can kind of be a mad house though. Hopefully we can catch each other? Would be fun to shop w/ you!! You have the advantage though, you know what I look like! :poke:

Anyone else wish to join us?

Hi I'm entering six plants so far but if we are short a few plants for our display I might put in a few just for fillers they won't win any ribbons but they are orchids with flowers.I have to go and pickup things for the show shortly. I'm going there Thurs. to set up but won't be able to attend the show. There's a possiblity I may breakdown on Sun. but only if needed and someone is will to give me a ride up.Guess I really won't be able to shop.Bummer.I just may grab some supplies from Kelly's if they are there on Thurs.Have fun Susan I still remember my first show I wanted to buy everything I saw.

Hi Heather I saw that Parkside had Pcc's in spike for sale.I was awfully tempted but with the possiblity of buying at the show holds me back.I have a Wallsii budding up at the present. The plant isn't very big though.

Hi Fred and Likespaphs,

I'm sorry I won't get to meet either of you at the show on Saturday. I'm excited, but also afraid that my "impuse buying" might bankrupt me. Fred, I will look for your plants. Is there a special name for the exhibit, or will the plants be on a judging table? I'm so new at this, and am really feeling giddy about going.

Heather, OK PCC = Penn's Creek Cascade. I have one as well...of course I cannot find it in my jungle of a growing area. I bought it because of the wallisii influence.

OHHH, this is going to be so great!!!

Hi Susan , My plants will be on the Ocean State Orchid Society's exhibit Mine will be the slippers and a few others My Rossoglosim will be there and a small cynoches I have ten plants going in only because not many of our members could come up with any plants. so even though I don;t expect ribbons on all my plants they add to the display. Our Show is in Nov. and everyone always tells us that it's too early in the season for a show because more orchids are in bloom as the winter moves on. But if we did it later we would have to compete with other Societies.I'm sure you will enjoy yourself. This being your first show a tip a lot of people use is to bring only enough money that you decided on to spend ahead of time and don't even bring plastic.Otherwise when you see all those vendors together at once and if they have nice plants you will talk yourself into more than you can carry.no Kidding though Have fun should be a good time. Ray
