View Full Version : is there such a thing... likespaphs September 10th, 2005, 01:04 PM as a mottled leaf multifloral species? Paphraguy September 10th, 2005, 01:12 PM As far as I know, nope but there are plenty of hybrid ones. papuanum September 10th, 2005, 01:44 PM There used to be one, offered by Kolopaking as "kolopakingii-like with mottled leaves" maybe 15 years ago. Some wealthy hobbyists from Singapore bought every single plant of it, and they eventually died. There is still one living plant in Peninsular Malaysia, in bad condition. It could not be a natural hybrid, becasue the original collection was of over 200 plants. Jon in SW Ohio September 10th, 2005, 02:44 PM Weren't those gigantifoliums that Kolopaking was offering? Maybe I'm remembering wrong. Jon papuanum September 10th, 2005, 04:33 PM Weren't those gigantifoliums that Kolopaking was offering? Maybe I'm remembering wrong. Jon No, he offered gigantifoliums a long time ago, only once, never twice, but those mottled leafed giant paphs were definitely something different, from central Borneo. Mahon September 10th, 2005, 09:34 PM A multifloral mottled leaved Paphiopedilum species? Well, how about Paph. bellatum, Paph. concolor, and the realted ones... kinda was thinking Parvi. for a sec... -P.A. Mahon Ray September 11th, 2005, 08:06 AM I have a mottled-leaf plant just going out of bloom - Paph. Green Horizon - which is Makuli x philippinense. Two of the growths bloomed this time, each with two large blossoms. The lower ones opened about a week before the uppers, they have stayed in bloom for about a month now, and I just lost the first blossom. Beskriver September 11th, 2005, 01:10 PM Yes, victoria-mariae, liemianum, and victoria-regina can all have mottled leaves. Besk likespaphs September 11th, 2005, 01:41 PM i had forgotten about the sequentials Eric Muehlbauer September 11th, 2005, 09:58 PM I have found that many of the barbata ("Maudiae-type") paphs will produce 2 buds when grown under lights...species as well as hybrids. Also the sublaeve form of callosum is frequently bifloral, some clones almost always are. P. concolor is usually bifloral, and may produce 3 buds...I have heard of even more....liemainum, as already mentioned, is a sequential type with mottled leaves, although the tessealations are different in pattern.
