I have a Paphoipedilum that I got from Baker and Chantry many years ago. If you know Paphs then you know they were heavily involved in breeding Paphs and Phrags for years. Anyway, this Paph I got is a species. It was collected before CITES was around and Gary Baker could never get it identified and the only name on the plant is Paph 'Gary's Enigma'.

Since I don't have a camera and have not found anything on the web that I can identify it with I was thinking about sending the flower into Selby for identification. I know they have gone downhill in the past decade but was wondering if any of you knew how accurate they were at identification?

Another question. Anyone know where I can have this plant tested to verify it is a species? genetic testing lab? I might have a pic of it in a few hours. I will bring it to a friends house who has a digital camera.

Get a pic of it, and someone here should almost definately be able to tell you what it is, and the parentage if it's a primary or natural hybrid. We have some very savy and keen eyes on this forum so definately get a pic if you can.

Well Jon, if any member of this forum could identify it then they would be a Golden God! I will try to get a pic but am still interested in any gene study info people could provide.

I am certainly not a novice and have tried everywhere to get it identified.

Certainly some of us should be able to identify it with a good photo.
As to Selby, they are still a force to be reconized.
I still think that the knowledge available here should suffice

If you look up the list of taxonomic authorities for the AOS, you could probably come up with several folk who could do this.

Koopowitz's name is on the list.

Could you give a description of the plant and flower? We can help narrow it down at the least and point you towards photos of related plants.

Does it normally have more than one flower?
Are the leaves all green or mottled?
What color are the flowers?
How big is the plant?

Isn't SteveT interested in this stuff? Or isn't his greenhouse moving in that direction?

We have a few Orchid God's :poke: on this forum that should be able to help you. This is the best orchid forum on the web, I have not found one any friendlier or more helpful.

Oh no, let's not get the Paph gods involved again

Hi Marcus!

Ebay has been so slow lately, I think I've lost my Goddess status there! :disappointed: :disappointed:

As for this forum; it is such a cool forum. And I am all for EEO, (and I'm a dumb ass and I do like to joke alot. ) so I want the all the women Goddesses to post their ideas!!! They must be out there! I am not one of them, but I think they are have valuable contributions!

I'd love to hear from the Gods, too. :-dance:

I'm not one of them either, of course, tho, I did pick a clonal name for my plants that was befitting of a Goddess...:)

Clonal names? This is too much for my feeble brain, Heather!! I'm just learning that you do not capitalize the names of the species! :D'

I would be curious as to a clonal name you would choose. You do not have to tell me. I did talk about this with my daughter and we decided that we would name anything we came up with after a horse and dog that we lost.

If anyone here is getting close to being the Paph Goddess, I would have to nominate you!

Well, if you think hard, it is a no-brainer, actually. Goddess, slippers...Greek....Islands...I bet you'll figure it out....or someone will.

Thanks for the compliment, but I think I am a long ways off from being a Paph. Goddess!

Sorry Tadd!

EEO = Egual Employment Opportunity. (for Goddesses, of course) :D
