Hello! I would like to get a new phrag this month...preferably one with long cascading petals since I don't have one of those yet. I have lots of space, so plant size isn't an issue (plus I can always get rid of some of those "other" orchids :poke: ). We Texans like BIG things anyway! So any suggestions for me? I would also love to have one of those multi-floral bloomers. Thanks!

For a beginner, I would recommend a long petalled hybrid, Phrag Grande, they are easy and fast growing with the right conditions of course. I have posted pics of my Grande in the Phrag gallery. Check them out! Good luck and let us know what you decide to get.

Okay, I have another suggestion - and it is a large one, lol!
Penn's Creek Cascade is wallisii x Grande and gets quite large, grows easily, and blooms with longish petals- around 12" or so, has lighter more wallisii like colors than Grande. Both sound like they might be something you would like. My PCC is in spike now....I'm planning on posting an updated photo later this evening.
Happy shopping!! :D

Man I wish I could post photos, my camera is so prehistoric the box actually says filmless camera -not digital :) My computer is a brand new Dell, and doesn't have a port for my antique camera cable. Guess I need to upgrade :) That 1.3 megapixel does rock!
Grande and the PCC are good options. My favorite is Phrag Meditation. It has really nice long petals& it is very pretty!

Okay I just placed an order through Oak Hill...after much clicking and a few sips of wine...I decided to get Phrag Bouley Bay (Eric Young x Grande). I was torn between longer petals on the plain Grande or another phrag called "Uranus" that I thought would go nicely with my paph wardii "Fartisorous Jack." In the end I did the girlie thing and went with the pink one. But to make myself feel better about the shorter petals, I put in a request for a flask of Phrag. Wallisii at Troy Meyers. :-dance:

Phrag wallisii is a beautiful long petalled species, slow growing plants but well worth it. Another two favorite long petalled hybrids of mine are Ruby Slippers and Super Rubies but those are a little trickier to grow, especially for beginners. They are not easy to find but check them out if you can.

I have a Bouley Bay. I love the plant and the flower. I currently have 2 very large new growths and am hoping for 2 spikes this time. I have to say that you made a good purchase.
That being said, I think that I like my Wallisii a little better. It grows much slower but currently has 4 new growths. I will not even dream of having 4 spikes. I will be happy with 1.
